What is Shared Web Hosting and how to start with Shared Hosting?
There are mainly four different web hosting categories: Shared Hosting, Virtual Private Server (VPS), Dedicated Hosting and Cloud Hosting. Shared hosting is simple, affordable and the least complex way to host your website. In shared hosting, multiple hosting accounts share the same server resources (RAM, CPU, etc.) but all users will only have access to their own hosting accounts only. Most of the hosting plans come with cPanel. cPanel is a graphical tool that helps you to build and manage your website, web files, web disk and other required setups very easily. If you are starting a blog or a website for small business, you can go for shared hosting and later you can migrate it to VPS or Dedicated servers as per your requirements.
Again, most of the service providers have different hosting plans for shared hosting. Generally, basic plan allows hosting of only one website and it comes with limited traffic bandwidth. Higher plans support hosting of higher number of websites/domains and unlimited traffic bandwidth. Some Hosting providers provide additional services like free webmail configuration, free SSL, free domain registration, SEO utility tools, cPanel as part of different shared hosting packages. So, if you are planning to establish your first online presence, this article will help you to choose the best hosting plan for your website as per your requirements.
A. Reliability vs Features vs Price:The first thing that you need to take into consideration is the reliability of a web hosting company.
I. Now a days there are so many web hosting providers and they are promising to provide lots of features like free domain, unlimited web disk space, unlimited bandwidth, free SSL for very cheap price. Don't fall for the trap, they may offer an overloaded server (more number of shared hosting accounts on a server). If your hosting provider does not deliver good services that may cause downtime for your website, bad web page loading time, etc., all these will eventually jeopardize the reputation of your website and can impact the SEO. So, it's very important to select your hosting provider with near 100% uptime and good resource management and allocation. So to be absolutely sure about the performance of the hosting services you should read the reviews and feedbacks about that hosting provider. If possible, opt for a free trial or make sure they have 100% money back option if you ask them to cancel your hosting account within first few days of purchase.
II. Few web hosting providers charge very high for the same features that are being offered by other providers. Some of those include different unnecessary features within hosting plans and increase the price of that pack. For example, if you are not creating an eCommerce website or not keeping any purchase (money transaction) option on your website, there is no requirement of buying SSL. Again, you may not want premium features like domain protection, SEO tools or any additional monitoring or security tools provided by your hosting company. So before going for any hosting provider, first list your requirements and then compare the price that different hosting companies are charging for those features.
So to summarize this point:1. Make a list of Reliable Web Hosting Service Providers.2. Gather the hosting requirements that you need to set up your website.3. Compare the price between those reliable providers.
B. Support/ Customer Service:You need to make sure that your hosting company has good Technical and Non-technical support Teams and they are available for 24×7. If you face any issue during purchase/ renewing your services you should contact the Non-Technical Support Team or Sales Team and if something wrong happens with your website you should contact the Technical Support team to fix the issue. It's always advisable to check if the hosting provider has Live Chat support and any local Customer Support number. Suppose you are in India and your Hosting Provider has Support number of USA only, and it does not have any Live Chat support, in that case contacting them during some emergency will be problematic. In that case you should look for the best web hosting India based providers who have good Technical and Non-technical Support teams.

Website host Squarespace to remove a âgroup of sitesâ after violence at Charlottesville white nationalist rally
Website hosting company Squarespace is removing sites from its platform in the wake of the Charlottesville attack, a company spokeswoman said.
The announcement came as a petition calling for the company to "stop hosting white supremacists" gained traction online.
"In light of recent events, we have made the decision to remove a group of sites from our platform," Squarespace spokeswoman Lulu Chang wrote in an email. "We have given the site owners 48 hours' notice. We cannot provide further information at this time."
[Why GoDaddy's decision to delist a neo-Nazi site is such a big deal]
The petition, circulated by Joseph Brown, an assistant professor in the political science department of the University of Massachusetts Boston, criticized Squarespace for continuing to host the websites of Richard Spencer's National Policy Institute and Identity Europa, a white supremacist group, despite repeated complaints.
"Squarespace's continued hosting of these sites constitutes an in-kind contribution to neo-nazis, white supremacists, and the violence they promote — in Charlottesville and elsewhere," the petition said. "WE MUST NOT STAND FOR THIS."
Spencer and Nathan Damigo, the founder of Identity Europa, were not immediately available for comment.
Brown said he posted the petition in March after a white nationalist group left racist recruitment fliers at his school, an institution where the majority of students are minorities. The petition had about 60,000 signatures as of Thursday morning.
"We serve people targeted by these racist organizations," he said in a telephone interview. "And so when they visited our campus it was really an attack on our students — an attack on what UMass Boston stands for."
Though Brown alerted Squarespace to the problem, the company initially told him it would not take any action.
"With so many diverse viewpoints expressed on Squarespace, there are sometimes sites containing content that others find offensive," a company representative wrote in an email to Brown in March. "However, Squarespace strongly supports the principles of freedom of speech, the marketplace of ideas, and empowering our users to share their opinions, even if those opinions are controversial or unpopular."
After the Charlottesville violence, other companies have removed racist websites. GoDaddy delisted the Daily Stormer, a prominent neo-Nazi website; the website of Vanguard America, the group that driver accused of the Charlottesville killing was photographed with, was removed by WordPress as well.
[Vanguard America, a white supremacist group, denies Charlottesville ramming suspect was a member]
Brown said he welcomes the change, but wishes Squarespace would have acted sooner.
"Although Squarespace said it's doing the right thing, it took so many weeks and other companies doing the right thing to make Squarespace take action," he said.

The Worldâs Fastest Shared Web Hosting In 2017
I always cringed recommending people to shared web hosting.
Selling web hosting for under $5/a month sets many companies up for failure as they have to overload their servers to turn a decent ROI (return on investment).
Large brands such as GoDaddy have such heavy adverting budgets they have to get really crafty to optimize each dollar they make. I can tell you based on experience no one gets rich off domain registrations unless you're processing millions a month (along with renewals).
We do things differentlyI built Name Hero so we could do things a bit different than other web hosts. I wanted to be able to offer affordable web hosting while at the same time offering quality web hosting that allows for blazing fast load times that can be scaled for growth.
I knew it wasn't going to be an easy task but also knew how large the demand was.
Back in 2013 I was co-owner and Chief Financial Officer at one of the largest mobile advertising agencies in the world. I personally built all of our servers to offer blazing speed along with 99.9% uptime redundancy. It puzzled me why other companies didn't build their infrastructures in a similar fashion.
Fastest Shared Web HostingIn order for us to be able to offer blazing fast web hosting I knew I had to build things out in the cloud.
Traditional dedicated servers are on their way out and while the ROI can be worth it, it's not a viable solution when it comes to scaling.
Therefore I undertook the seamlessly impossible task of building out my own private cloud and partitioning it in a way that would eventually create one of the fastest-growing shared web hosting infrastructures in the world.
The investment wasn't cheap. Thankfully I was able to bootstrap the company from my own personal capital and leverage my crypto-currency investments to generate the funding needed.
Name Hero Web HostingThree and a half years later here we are. Name Hero isn't the largest web hosting brand, but I would put our month-after-month growth up against any company out there.
In the coming months the entire world will begin to hear more about us as we're gearing up for an International, multi-channel, multi-million dollar advertising campaign.
Simply put, we want to offer web hosting to individuals and companies that are looking for high-speed, redundant, reliable web hosting. We believe this shouldn't be an impossible task especially with the growth of the cloud.
Becoming the world's fastestMy wife reminds me daily "there is always someone better." And I don't doubt that.
My head spins every time I go to do competitive research because there is so many web hosting companies out there.
With that said, I can promise you, I've invested much more money than the "average" web hosting startup would in their infrastructure.
If I was in this for the money, I could be make 5, 10 times more ROI going with old-school dedicated servers and traditional software such as Apache, mySQL, etc. (instead we use LiteSpeed, MariaDB). Instead, we're going to keep going on the course we're on; daring to be different and offer a much better web hosting experience along with 10/10 customer satisfaction!

The Justice Department demanded over a million IP addresses from an anti-Trump website and a web-hosting company is fighting it
Police and demonstrators clash in downtown Washington after a limo was set on fire following the inauguration of President Donald Trump, January 20, 2017 in Washington, D.C. Spencer Platt/Getty Images
A web-hosting and domain registration company is fighting a Justice Department warrant for records from a website that helped organize protests against President Donald Trump's inauguration.
According to DreamHost, the Justice Department has filed a motion to compel the company to release 1.3 million visitors' IP addresses from disruptj20.org, a website belonging to a group of activists "building the framework needed for mass protests to shut down the inauguration of Donald Trump."
In addition to visitor logs, the Justice Department has demanded contact information, emails, and photos, DreamHost said in a blog post.
As DreamHost noted, the Justice Department's request raises alarms because the information could potentially be used to identify people who were exercising their Constitutional right of free speech to protest Trump.
"That should be enough to set alarm bells off in anyone's mind," the web-hosting company said on its blog. "This is, in our opinion, a strong example of investigatory overreach and a clear abuse of government authority."
The Justice Department's warrant argues that officials could seize all information relating to violations of Washington D.C.'s code that stemmed from the riots that ensued during the day of Trump's inauguration, according to The Hill. More than 200 people had been indicted on felony rioting charges in connection to the riots in downtown D.C., CNN reported.
The Justice Department has since called DreamHost's reluctance to surrender its records "misguided" and that it lacked sufficient basis. The agency also argued that DreamHost's concern for users' privacy "lacks merit."
"Internet users have a reasonable expectation that they will not get swept up in criminal investigations simply by exercising their right to political speech against the government," DreamHost wrote. "We intend to take whatever steps are necessary to support and shield these users from what is, in our view, a very unfocused search and an unlawful request for their personal information."
A court hearing between DreamHost's counsel and the Justice Department is set for August 18 in D.C.

Neo-Nazi site Daily Stormer kicked off second web host in less than 24 hours
Neo-Nazi site The Daily Stormer has been cut off by its domain hosting service again after being forced to move from GoDaddy to Google.
The white supremacist news site and forum was unceremoniously told to find a new web hosting service after publishing a post calling Charlottesville victim Heather Heyer a 'fat, childless slut'.
It also called the anti-racist activist a 'drain on society' and said 'most people are glad she's dead'.
After being sent the disturbing, offensive article on Twitter, GoDaddy told the hate site it had 24 hours to find a new hosting firm because it had violated its terms and conditions.
Shortly before 8am California time today, the Daily Stormer registered a new domain with Alphabet Inc's Google Domains, which offers transfers through an automated online process that takes just 20 minutes.
Girl, 13, dead after car mows down diners at pizza restaurant near Paris But within less than three hours – at 10.56am – Google announced its plans to revoke the site's domain.
'We don't want our services to incite violence,' an insider at Google said.
It's not 100% clear if the revocation has taken effect, but if you try and visit the Daily Stormer website, you are currently presented with this error message.

'This is just surreal,' one forum user, who describes himself as a 'psychopathic anime Nazi', complained.
'The whole day has been a fucking nightmare.'

Since the horrific attack in Charlottesville, Twitter users have been using the internet to name and shame white supremacists and get them sacked from their jobs.
And a tragically poignant US government video from 1947, which warns against the gradual rise of Nazism, has gone viral.
