How To Clone A Website From Another Host To DreamHost Using The ManageWP Clone Tool
Migrating your website from one web hosting company to another can be a challenge. It sounds like a lot of downloading, uploading, importing and exporting is required to get it done. And if you mess up on any one of the steps, you end up with a site that doesn't work. Ugh!
That's where ManageWP can help. ManageWP has created a backup tool that has integrated a Clone/Migration feature, and with just a few clicks your website can be moved to DreamHost.
Let's show you how easy it is:
1. The first step is to add your source website and DreamHost website to ManageWP. This requires you to install the ManageWP Worker plugin on both WordPress installations. You can do this in the WordPress dashboard by going to Plugins > Add New. Search for ManageWP Worker. Click Install Now, then Activate. Now add both websites to ManageWP. (You can also have ManageWP install the plugin for you—you'll just need to give ManageWP your admin username and password for each WordPress site.)
2. The second step is activating the backup tool on the source website and waiting a couple of minutes for the backup to get created, then tap the orange Clone button.
3. The third step is selecting your DreamHost website as a destination—and now you have just finished 99 percent of the job! This can be WordPress running on DreamHost shared, VPS or DreamPress hosting.
You are also able to track the cloning process progress:
4. When cloning is over, check your destination website by tapping "here". If you are using DreamPress, you may need to click to purge the cache (at the top of the WordPress dashboard) if it still displays a default WordPress theme rather than the one from the source website.
Purge Varnish:
All right, you're done! See, it was pretty easy.
If you don't already have a ManageWP account, it's pretty straightforward to get one. Just follow the steps on ManageWP.com HomePage to sign up. And you're in luck—it's free to add unlimited websites!
This is a guest post by Aleksandar Savkovic, ManageWP Customer Happiness Engineer by night. Father DJ, WordPress developer & lecturer by day. No matter what we throw his way, he gets the job done. Find him on Twitter @wpaleks.
