Iliad web-hosting unit opts for France IX 100 Gbps ports

Paris-based Internet exchange point (IXP) France-IX said one of its members, leading French web-hosting provider Online, has migrated from four 10 Gbps ports to two 100 Gbps ports, significantly boosting its capacity. Online, a unit of French telecoms group Iliad, said the upgrade places its relationship with France-IX among those offering it the greatest capacity for long-term growth. No financial details were disclosed.

France-IX, founded in 2010 with the support of the French operators community, offers public and private peering to internet services providers, content delivery providers and other types of internet networks. It is also partly based in the southern French city of Marseille and describes itself as the digital gateway to the Middle East and Africa region.

France-IX launched its 100 Gbps LR4 ports on its triple core in the Paris region and its two points of presence in Marseille in October 2015, allowing connected networks to use extra capacity immediately instead of having to upgrade by 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps increments as previously.

The IXP signed up its 300th member in February 2016 when it also announced plans to double its number of employees.
