NWACC to Host Web Content and Merchandising Class for Walmart Vendor Community

BENTONVILLE, Ark., April 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Northwest Arkansas Community College has partnered with local eCommerce firm WhyteSpyder for a two-day course aimed at bringing suppliers up to speed with the standards and practices for web content that Walmart requires.

Item Storytelling for the Omnichannel Shopper will be held in room B103 of the Shewmaker Center for Workforce Technologies on the following dates:

WhyteSpyder CEO Eric Howerton outlines key Markendising ideas.

May 2-3, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.June 6-7, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

The lectures will be taught by WhyteSpyder's co-founder and CEO, Eric Howerton, and Senior Director of Account Services, Joyce Grippi, who will share lessons from their decades of merchandising experience to show the quality of content expected by modern shoppers.

"Walmart is asking for the best-in-class data and content," Howerton said. "They don't want— they won't even accept the blanketed content that's coming from retailers. They want it unique."

Howerton says the key to connecting with the researching consumer is to show them how the product can solve their problems. "You need to be their library," he said.

Walmart's acquisition of Jet.com and hiring of its CEO, Marc Lore, presents an important opportunity for brands doing business with the company to participate in its largest push yet for innovative web content and data. However, Howerton has noticed that not all vendors are aware of the recent major developments in online marketing.

"There is a massive gap in understanding omnichannel shopper behavior and their demand for item-level data and content," Howerton said. He and Grippi have shaped the objectives of the course around addressing this issue, mapping out the "what, why, and how" of merchandising best practices.

The course requires no prerequisites and will last from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants must have access to Retail Link, the system Walmart uses to communicate inventory and sales data with vendors, and bring a laptop to class each day.
