The company you choose for hosting your website does have an effect on your SEO. It does not matter, what kind of a site you have. You need a good hosting plan and a reliable hosting partner for primary marketing reasons. You need a hosting plan that can support rapid expansion, high traffic and almost no downtime.

Choosing the right hosting company may not buy you a guarantee of a #1 position at Google SRL. However, it can shift the odds in your favour. You can easily avoid the common consequences most current companies face when they start out with unreliable hosting options.

At least two factors of hosting affect the SEO of your website directly. Uptime – downtime and speed directly influence the visibility of your site, profile and blogs. In reality, these parameters are never constant. They vary significantly from month to month. You need a speed-testing tool to keep your eye on the hosting speed. Price plays a significant role in choosing your hosting company, but it should not be your only parameter.

Always start with a monthly hosting plan

Make sure you get a monthly hosting plan. If you pay them for one year or three years in advance, you will find it financially restricting to move your account to another hosting service. A monthly plan makes sure that as soon as the hosting company drops its qualities, you can switch to a new one with better benefits. Monthly plans always cost about 10$ more than a yearly plan. However, you have more flexibility with a monthly plan since your initial investment is quite small.

Almost every server has a downtime. This is the time, during which your site remains inaccessible. Spiders and crawlers from Google visit a site several times a day. Each crawl contributes to the general rank of a site as per keywords. If they find a blockage on the path thanks to server downtime, your website will remain crawled for about 4-5 times per day. This will show adverse effects on your Google Rankings.

If your website hosting service offers a 99% uptime per years, it is not sufficient. 1% means 3.65 days. That is over three days of no crawling, no visitors and no sales. Think carefully, will your website be able to manage three terrible days of no business? Always go for hosts that promise a 100% runtime. Even if they experience some snag, your website will experience more business and sales. Most of these fast 100% uptime plans from hosting companies are expensive.

Keep a host analysis tool handy. You can monitor the uptimes and downtimes of your website by using a reliable analytics tool.

How does speed affect your site optimization?

Google has recently expressed its preference for websites with higher speed. Although Yahoo! Moreover, Bing is not very overt about their speed preferences; you should ideally optimise your site for Google search engine. Google controls over 78% of global search traffic. If you can get your website ready for Google, you will automatically see a drastic rise in inbound traffic and conversions.

You can check your site speed for free from Pingdom, Google PageSpeed Insights and GTMetrix. It will take you a couple of minutes at the most. Any of these tools can tell you which components of your website are slowing you down. These devices generate easy analytics reports. You can see what content needs deletion, which links are broken and which script is too heavy for your sever to shoulder. An ideal website should load in less than 1.5 seconds. Your readers and customers are an impatient bunch. If your site takes more than 3 seconds, they will find somewhere else to shop.

If your speed results turn out to be lesser than average, you should always go for a private server. They are significantly costlier. However, they are fast too. Sometimes, they have only a few sites feeding off their resources. At other times, they will only have your site. The page speed increases manifold, and your website will load almost instantly.

How does location affect hosting and search engine friendliness?

Search engines love to know your business location. If you have a business, always provide the NAP to Google My Business. This complements your backlinks, contents, keywords, etc. for ranking purposes. For example, if you operate out of Canberra, people who search for your business and Canberra (even without your company name) will be able to see you somewhat on top of the Google SRL.

That is because of the search engine, in use, finds your website address, the IP address of your site and determines where you are operating from. The IP address of your site depends upon the location of the server.

Some say you need to use servers based in your optimisation or country, to rank high in Google. We say that is a myth. You can choose an excellent hosting system from overseas and still get amazing ranks from Google if your host does their job correctly. If you want complete control of your hosting and want to stay in touch with the services, it makes sense if you want to choose a host near you.

    Wrapping it up

Your choice of hosting company will ultimately dictate if your site will be popular, successful or if you will go unnoticed like millions of other websites.
