What Exactly Does Managed Web Hosting Mean?

Nearly every web hosting company offers some type of Managed Web Hosting especially in their marketing.
But what exactly does this mean?Frequent readers of our Blog here at Name Hero know I believe in complete transparency to all of our customers.
From showing real-time reviews, to support feedback, to disclosing our account CPU/cPanel limitations, I want our customers to know exactly what to expect when choosing us as their hosting partner.
So what exactly do you manage? For starters, all of our servers at Name Hero are updated daily by our Level III team.
This includes applying operating system patches, kernel updates, as well as updating all core software components such as cPanel, Web Host Manager, LiteSpeed, CloudLinux, etc.
Even for our customers using their own Virtual Private Server (VPS) we carry out these updates daily. We strongly feel by being proactive in our upgrades we're able to increase our security for newly detected threats and malicious software holes.
Security scanningSome providers only notify customers after a threat has been detected on their website.
In most cases, this is by seeing unusual server activity in the log files such as user's relaying Spam email out.
At Name Hero, we take a proactive approach by scanning all of our Shared / Reseller servers nightly for Malware. Each morning our Level III team manually reviews the report and begins the automated removal process to ensure a safe, reliable, and secure network.
Since most attackers will first upload their malicious software and wait to carry out an attack, we have it mitigated as soon as we see it.
DDOS MitigationWe have teamed up with industry security experts such as Arbor and Corero to provide comprehensive mitigation of distributed denial of server attacks automatically.
We monitor all network traffic (not just web traffic) at the border layer of the network, in real time. At this layer, analytics are used as well as a customer Threat Detection System to intelligently and proactively identify attacks before the reach any critical layer of the infrastructure.
When detected, any malicious traffic is scrubbed and separated from all other traffic prior to being mitigated by countermeasures, tailored specifically to the type of attack that has been identified. Specialized hardware ensures that all legitimate traffic proceeds directly, unimpeded, to our customers throughout the duration of the attack.
Other web hosting providers will charge a premium for this service (as it's not cheap to offer) but we strongly feel it's vital into creating a network with a high level of redundancy (i.e. uptime).
Software CompatibilityWe have provisioned all of our Shared and Reseller hosting servers to work with multiple versions of PHP.
While in a perfect world we would all use the newest, PHP 7, that's simply not reality for some developers still making the transition.
By offering the ability to switch PHP versions from inside of cPanel as well as installing/enabling extensions, customers are able to customize their hosting experience to ensure full software compatibility.
Migrations From Other HostsWithout a doubt, the most time consuming support request we handle is migrations from previous/former web hosts.
We want to make sure your move to Name Hero is painless with no downtime and full migration of your website while maintaining its functionality.
With our Managed Hosting, we offer 10 free cPanel to cPanel migrations with additional migrations discounted for new customers.
NameHero Fully Managed Web HostingAt Name Hero, we're confident to say we offer fully managed web hosting on all of our services at no added charge.
Some companies will try to manipulate and use this as a buzz word throughout their marketing with never providing any detail as to what exactly they're managing.
We want our customers to know exactly what to expect from us so we can develop a relationship based on trust and not slimy marketing. Feel free to let us know if you have any questions!
