Should You Register Your Domain At The Same Company As Buying Web Hosting?
If you've ever spent time on many of the popular web hosting forums, it's likely you've seen this question before:
Should you register domains with the same company you have your web hosting?
Way back in the early days of the Internet, this was highly discouraged by many because of the fear was always if a company went out of business they would not only take your web hosting, but also your domain.
Therefore, it became a custom for people to register their domain at one company and their web hosting at another.
While this may provide some with a sense of "security" it can really have a negative impact on support response times.
Most of the tickets that come through the Name Hero support desk can easily be answered within minutes if we have both the domain and the web hosting.
Over 90% Increase In Support ResolutionIf we don't have the domain, on average, the resolution time increases by over 90%!
That's because we have to go off knowledge base articles and wait on external companies to assist our customers.
We specialize in Reseller Hosting and provide our customers free private name servers. I can't even begin to tell you about the headaches I've seen with customers trying to get help from their domain registrar to register their name servers. Some have almost been impossible!
ICANN AccreditationAside from it being just "wrong" for a company to "run off" with your domain – it also puts them at tremendous legal liability. Hosting companies that offer domains either have to be accredited by ICANN or use an ICANN accredited reseller account.
Therefore, you have two separate layers of protection!
ICANN isn't going to let someone run away with your prized domain names – its just not going to happen.
Just look at their regulations to becoming a registrar. Scammers aren't going to pass :).
Bundle And SaveAt NameHero, we offer [one year] free domain (or transfer) for .com, .net, .org, and .mobi with the majority of our annual Shared & Reseller packages.
I'm a saver, so I encourage everyone to take advantage of this!
We also have a pretty cool Instant Domain Search engine:
And offer our WhoisHero Privacy Protection with the majority of TLDs (where allowed).
My Internal ToolTo top things off, originally I founded Name Hero's primary service as a domain registrar to hold/manage my quite large domain portfolio.
While I still don't consider myself a domainer, I built our interface to be an internal tool to help me manage my names so I could easily add/remove ID protection, redirect to different auction sites, and renew without worrying about a name dropping.
It's been a tremendous tool for my business, and I hope you'll find the same!
Many of our customers are really starting to take advantage of this and I hope you do the same!
