PHP 7 Hosting Release Continues To Propel A2 Hosting Ahead Of The Curve

  • ANN ARBOR, Mich., July 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- High performance web hosting provider A2 Hosting first made a name for themselves back in 2004 by being one of the first hosts to support PHP 5. With the recent Beta release of PHP 7, history repeats itself with A2 Hosting being one of the first providers to offer PHP 7 Hosting. PHP 7 is available on A2 Hosting's Turbo Web Hosting service. Speed tests show A2 Hosting's Turbo Servers load pages up to 20X faster than competing services. Unlike other hosts not allowing caching solutions on shared servers, each Turbo customer gets A2 Hosting's A2 Optimized Site Accelerator. This exclusive cPanel plugin further speeds up page loads with user-friendly caching for applications from a single interface. With speed being a key focal point of PHP 7, the PHP team decided to move past PHP 6 which had different objectives. It appears the PHP developers have been successful so far in meeting their performance goals. Tests show PHP 7 performs 100%, and even faster in some tests, than PHP 5.6. This is not surprising as PHP 7 is based on the PHPNG (PHP Next-Gen) project, designed to speed up PHP applications. Users interested in using PHP 7 because of its performance gains will discover A2 Hosting and their Turbo servers are the perfect location for their development. That's because A2 Hosting's goal themselves is to offer the fastest hosting possible while living up to their tagline "Our Speed. Your Success." "In addition to offering the fastest hosting possible, our other goal is to make sure we stay up to date on the latest versions of the most popular development software," commented A2 Hosting's Marketing Manager Brad Litwin. "It just so happens the release of PHP 7 meets both of these goals." While PHP 7 is a development preview not quite ready for production use and there can be no guarantee of specific application compatibility as of yet, a full PHP 7 release is scheduled for November. With A2 Hosting's PHP Switcher, moving between multiple PHP versions including PHP 5.1-5.6 and of course PHP 7 is particularly easy. Customers can try A2 Hosting's PHP 7 Hosting completely risk-free with their Anytime Money Back Guarantee. About A2 Hosting A2 Hosting, Inc. is a high-performance hosting company located in Ann Arbor, MI. Web-hosting service GoDaddy opens up shop in Australia

GoDaddy, one of the world's largest web hosting companies and domain name registrars, launched formally in Australia on Wednesday.

Although it has had a localised online offering since 2012, the company hopes to better serve Australia's more than 2 million small businesses by having an Australia-dedicated team, James Carroll, head of international business and development at GoDaddy, told Mashable Australia.

GoDaddy has around 13 million customers across 42 markets wordwide, but the company would not disclose the number of Australian users.

However, Carroll said the company's services have proved extremely popular Down Under. Even before GoDaddy had set up its site to support Australian payments and domain names, it saw Australian customers using the U.S. site and even paying U.S dollars to access the platform.

The number of local users has been increasing, and it's because of this growth the company is taking the next step and opening local operations, Carroll said.

Along with Australia-tailored products, services and prices, customers can also expect hyper-local domain names like ".sydney," ".melbourne" and others to be immediately available as they are rolled out. The call centre serving Australian customers will be based in Phoenix, Arizona for the moment, but that could be revisited as they settle into their new home.

While there are plenty of platforms small business owners can use to build an online presence, from Facebook to Shopify, Carroll hopes customers see GoDaddy, which went public in the U.S. in April, as an opportunity to build their own brand, rather than operating in someone else's marketplace.

Although it was known in the U.S. for many years for its provocative Superbowl ads, Carroll said the company would not be taking a similarly controversial marketing approach Down Under.

"Those commercials were at a point in time," he said. "Now there's been a major shift inside the company … we're all about helping small businesses."

Hostwinds makes it easy to get inexpensive web hosting

Hostwinds is a trendsetting company that was founded by a member of the Millennial Generation

In the past, you needed to make a decision between price and reliability when selecting a web hosting provider. This is due to the well-known and generally accepted fact that low cost web hosting providers were able to offer steep discounts in exchange for skimping on other desirable perks such as timely access to customer service and uptime percentages near 99.9 percent. For some small businesses, there was truly no other way to build an affordable online presence than to willingly sacrifice quality for a cheap bill. Fortunately, the people behind Hostwinds have made it their mission to offer a level of quality and uptime performance that traditionally could not be achieved for pricing as low as $4.50 per month.

    Hostwinds Exposes a Generational Divide

Phrases such as "you get what you pay for" are very common, and many people are suspicious of services or products that are not expensive enough to seem like a viable option. This thought process most likely stems from a long history of companies mass producing poor quality items that were intended to be sold at discount prices. However, the Internet has offered some compelling contradictions, and it is now possible to sign up for inexpensive services without receiving an inferior product.

The main catalyst behind this changing approach is the unique way that the Millennial Generation views the relationship between price and quality. In today's digital world, there are countless companies offering useful items such as apps for free or at a very minimal cost, and yet these products still provide quality results. This has helped shape the way Millennials think about the price structure that their businesses put in place. It is common for the young generation to believe that they not only can but should be given access to top-notch services for an affordable price. In other words, this particular generation is more skeptical of the claim that services need to cost a lot of money to be worthwhile than they are of discount offers.

    Save Money without Sacrificing Quality

Hostwinds is one of many trendsetting companies that were founded by a member of the Millennial Generation, and this has led to an unusually low price point for website hosting that is not encumbered by poor customer service or frequent downtimes. In fact, numerous well-established and respected websites have posted positive reviews about Hostwinds, including Entrepreneur and PC Magazine. In other words, Hostwinds delivers the goods without requiring a high monthly fee. This might feel like an alien and even untrustworthy concept to people outside of the Millennial Generation, but the odds are high that this new trend will become a major factor in the future of the online business world.

Hostwinds Provides a Variety of Services and Price Points

If you are really uncomfortable with the idea of getting basic website hosting, a high uptime percentage and access to customer service for less than $5 per month, you can invest in one of Hostwinds' more extravagant options. Of course, in this particular scenario, extravagant means a business hosting Ultimate account for $10. Hostwinds does offer Premium VPS hosting starting at $13.50, but most small businesses will be able to get their needs met with one of the company's cheaper alternatives.

In addition to web hosting, Hostwinds recently announced their ability to offer discounted Minecraft Server Hosting. Dedicated servers are also sold with a starting price of $99 per month. Overall, Hostwinds' cost-effective approach appears to be a very solid way to take advantage of numerous hosting related services without needing to worry about unreliable uptimes or an inconsistent level of quality customer service.

Web host suspends pro-Shabaab website www.radioalfurqaan.com

One of the main openly pro-Shabaab websites used to disseminate the group's ideas across the world  and radicalise youths appears to have been suspended.

The website (www.radioalfurqaan.com) has been suspended in the recent days by its webhost in what appears to be crackdown on the presence of the militants online to deter their recruitment and radicalising activities in Somalia and the region.

The website used to post messages by Al Shabaab leaders encouraging or glorifying their horrific attacks including those against innocent unarmed civilians in Somalia and Kenya and encouraging more similar attacks.

It also used to carry reports of their latest battles against the Federal Government of Somalia and foreign troops from the African Union inside the country while encouraging readers to join their cause.

In the recent past, some security experts have been calling for openly pro- shabaab websites to be shut down by law enforcement agencies across the world as they aid their cause of recruiting more youths into indiscriminate violence. They argue that this move will bring down the capacity of the group to win sympathisers and active members.

A few years ago, social networking site Twitter also suspended the account of the militants several times to block them from getting their message to the world and recruiting gullible persons.

However, two other key pro-shabaab websites are still in operation, carrying forward their main mandate of publishing their ideas including www.somalimemo.net and www.calamada.com

For instance, both websites have published an audio statement of Al Shabaab spokesman justifying and glorifying the most recent attack in Jazeera Hotel in Mogadishu in which at least 13 people were while the Kenya envoy to Somalia escaped narrowly.

One of the websites, www.somalimemo.net also has a Kiswahili segment targeting Kenyan youths with their reports in order to win sympathisers and supporters.

Apart from the website, the militant group also runs a number of radio stations in the areas of Southern and Central Somalia that still remain under their hands.

    Self-Hosting Your Blog

I can't believe I wrote this post almost a year ago. I was debating for months about whether or not I wanted to go from using a free wordpress.com blog to hosting my own site. Finally, a year later I can say that I am SO glad that I decided to move to a self-hosted blog. It was a scary decision because I didn't know how long I wanted to keep blogging, or if I would even still be enjoying it a year later.

I don't usually write about blogging topics because I feel like such a newbie and inexperienced blogger, but it might be helpful to some people who are trying to decide whether or not they should self host their blog.Computer

Here is my shortlist of pros and cons I've discovered by switching my blog from wordpress.com to wordpress.org.

    Pros

  • You decide what your domain name is and you don't have to use the wordpress.com add on. Your website name is shorter and easier to remember!
  • You can use your blog to provide a bit of income if you own the domain and host your webpage by linking adds to your page.
  • You own your website!
  • More customization options. You can make your website look exactly the way you want. (I have found my limited computer skills have made this not quite true, but I'm working on it..hahah)
  • Cons

  • It's not free.
  • It takes more time to manage.
  • Personally, I was wary, but I think the pros have far outweighed the cons. This site also has some helpful tips!

The first step is to find a web host. There are a whole slew of web hosts to choose from. Many bloggers rave about BlueHost. I read hundreds of reviews and stories about other bloggers experiences with self-hosting and ended up deciding that ipage would be the most affordable and appropriate host for my humble blog. I can definitely see the benefits of using BlueHost or other companies for larger blogs with millions of views, but it was a bit pricey for me and I knew I could always switch hosts if I didn't like how ipage was working out. They have been great to work with and have answered all of my questions super quickly.

Next step is to buy your domain name. If you have already purchased the domain name you like from a company other than your host it is pretty easy to switch it to your host. You can also usually purchase the domain directly through your host. Sometimes the webhost will offer a free domain name when you purchase their hosting plans.

Next I redirected my wordpress.com traffic to my new webpage! I still used wordpress so I just updated my theme and spent a lot of time (I mean a lot of time) fixing and refixing the layout over and over until I settled on what it looks like now. There is still a lot of different things I'd love to update, but everything takes so much time!

Bloggers! Do you self-host your blog, when did you make the switch, and are you happy you did?

Nubem Announces Today a New PHP Web Hosting Services Platform

Nubem (https://nubem.com) announces today a new PHP Web Hosting service. The platform brings guaranteed resources and is crafted with developers and resellers in mind.

Miami, FL (PRWEB) July 23, 2015

Nubem announces today a new PHP Web Hosting platform designed with developers and resellers in mind. Guaranteed resources, LAMP stack and no hidden fees are the key aspects of this infrastructure. The service is available at https://nubem.com/hosting/

Linux Os, Apache web server, MariaDB MySql database and PHP frameworks are the components of the LAMP stack. While Nubem PHP hosting relies on the standard LAMP stack, this platform is a little different from what many other hosting companies offer. Nubem avoids promises of unlimited plans with a lot of hidden limitations. Clients pay for the exact guaranteed resources they need.

    Shared hosting, secure by design:

Security has a fundamental role in shared web hosting. Nubem PHP Hosting Platform has been designed from its roots to be secure. A compromised Web server that runs with admin privileges may remove files and information belonging to other accounts. This pitfall could put the entire hosting platform at risk. In a scenario where a Web server runs inside an isolated chroot with the exact privileges to access only the required resources, it cannot compromise the system it is running on.

    Time saving user interface:

Effectiveness is a fundamental aspect on Nubem. For instance, the dashboard provides a one-click WordPress setup. Users can forget about the technical aspects of this CMS and be online in few minutes. In addition, every component of the management interface is optimized so that developers, resellers and I.T. personnel can achieve the deepest level of configuration within the lowest number of clicks.

"Diverse complementary features are included when you choose Nubem as your PHP Hosting provider," said Alberto Masperi, CEO of Etesya LLC. "For instance, Domain names registration, advanced protection, domain records history, email forwarding and granular ftp access are covered as standard. Nubem is different from many other hosting and registrar companies. It is not going to promise unlimited plans with a lot of hidden limitations. Clients pay for the resources they need. This is it. Furthermore, Nubem pays special attention to the user's experience and security. Said in three words, we call it Simplicity, Reliability, Savings. This is why we believe that Nubem is a great destination for anyone who is seeking extra value and special care for its online presence."

    Nubem product portfolio includes:

    Domain Names Registration https://nubem.com/domain-names/

    Dynamic DNS https://nubem.com/free-dynamic-dns/

    About Nubem

Nubem is a product of Etesya LLC, a USA Florida company. Etesya LLC was founded in June 2012 by a group of experienced tech entrepreneurs sharing a common vision in the matter of cloud computing: "Add simplicity and increase productivity in a rapidly changing world." With operations in USA, North America and Europe, Nubem is an emerging service provider in cloud computing technologies. Nubem focuses on an easy-to-understand philosophy: Simplicity, Reliability, Savings.

Who lurks in the 'dark web'? Criminals, terrorists, the military and more, CRS explains

In October 2013, the FBI closed down Silk Road, considered then one of the most notorious online global black market sites and reportedly used by more than 100,000 buyers. The virtual platform for illicit services and contraband – everything from drugs to malware to forged passports – generated about $1.2 billion in sales from its reported launch in 2011 until its dissolution.

It was also one of the best known examples of the "dark web," one of the deepest, intentionally hidden reaches of the World Wide Web used for both malicious and legal purposes. In a Congressional Research Service report (pdf) dated July 7, Kristin Finklea, a specialist in domestic security, provides a broad overview of the hidden layers of the Internet, focusing on the dark web and the challenges facing policy makers and law enforcement officials in fighting illegal online activity taking place in those virtual regions.

The dark web is just a deeper, stealthier part of what's called the "deep web" in which certain content such as private intranets and commercial databases like LexisNexis can't be indexed by search engines. While Finklea doesn't give a size and scope of the dark web, which can only be accessed through special software, she writes the deep web is estimated to be 4,000 to 5,000 times larger than the "surface web," which is the content that can be accessed through search engines like Google and Bing.

But the dark web, can only be accessed through specialized software through networks like Tor – which stands for "The Onion Router" and was originally created by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory – or I2P, also known as the Invisible Internet Project, according to the report recently made public by the Federation of American Scientists.

To navigate this realm, users can access directories such as the "Hidden Wiki" that organizes sites by category like Wikipedia. They can also use general search engines like Ahmia or specific ones like Grams that allows individuals to find illicit drugs, guns and other contraband, writes Finklea.

Anonymity is a major reason why people use the dark web whether it's to keep sensitive personal or business communications private, whether for illegal or legitimate reasons. Some individuals use it to access content that may be blocked by governments, while others like political dissidents use it to keep their communications and locations private.

Even journalists use Tor to communicate with whistleblowers and dissidents. For instance, National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden reportedly used one operating system that runs Tor to speak with journalists and leak classified information, according to the CRS report.

Still, anonymity isn't "foolproof," Finklea writes. For instance, in October 2011, the hacktivist group Anonymous crashed a website hosting service that supposedly housed more than 40 child pornography sites. Anonymous matched digital fingerprints to one site and then launched a distributed-denial-of-service attack against Freedom Hosting, leaking usernames and other data for more than 1,500 members in the process.

And the dark web continues to be a platform for conducting a variety of malicious and criminal activities such as illicit goods sales, gambling, and child porn as well as services for hire such as thieves and assassins. But Finklea writes that data on the prevalence of such sites is lacking.

The law enforcement, military and the intelligence communities also use the dark web. For instance, the FBI use it to target hackers, online sexual predators and others. Since 2002, the agency has been using a computer and Internet protocol to compromise servers to identify certain Tor users. She writes that policy makers are questioning whether law enforcement officials have enough tools to fight such illegal activities.

The U.S. military uses the dark web to protect command and control systems in the field from being identified by enemies. It also uses it to study the environment around them or discover activities that present a risk to troops.

"For instance, evidence suggests that the Islamic State ... and supporting groups seek to use the dark web's anonymity for activities beyond information sharing, recruitment, and propaganda dissemination, using Bitcoin to raise money for their operations," writes Finklea. "In its battle against [the Islamic State], the Department of Defense ... can monitor these activities and employ a variety of tactics to foil terrorist plots."

Finklea writes that much of the scope and nature of the dark web, and deep web, is unknown. And while researchers have suggested there may not be much incentive for individuals to browse these areas, technology will likely "improve the stealthiness of darknets."

"As such, law enforcement and policy makers may question how best to contend with evolving technology such as encryption and the challenges of attribution in an anonymous environment to effectively combat malicious actors who exploit cyberspace, including the dark web," she concludes.

Media Temple Launches Managed Cloud Hosting Services for AWS

Los Angeles-based Web hosting and cloud services provider Media Temple has rolled out a new managed service for customers that use Amazon Web Services (AWS). Designed for enterprises with complex and fast-evolving cloud hosting needs, Media Temple's managed offering targets users who want to migrate Web sites or apps to AWS for the first time, as well as existing AWS customers looking for more support.

Media Temple, which was acquired by GoDaddy in 2013, said it developed the new service to meet the needs of customers who could benefit from AWS' cloud solutions but lacked the time or expertise to deploy them effectively. It built its new offering after conducting pilot tests with a few customers earlier this year.

The company decided to partner with AWS rather than develop its own cloud-based managed hosting service to focus on services "that would deliver the most value to customers," noted Brendan Fortune, Media Temple's Product Director for Cloud Solutions. Fortune said it was a no-brainer for the company to focus on providing premium managed cloud hosting services and step in as its customers' cloud architects and sysadmins.

$199/Month and Up, Not Counting AWS Fees

Working as an advanced technology partner of AWS, Media Temple is aiming its new managed services at customers looking for "highly available, pay-as-you-go infrastructure for large-scale projects," Fortune said.

The CloudTech managed services are available in four different plans: Essential (starting at $199 per month), Advanced ($399 per month), Premium ($799 per month) and Executive ($1,599 per month). These plans do not include the costs for AWS services, but come with 24/7 on-call support from certified systems administrators, round-the-clock proactive monitoring, security scanning and malware removal.

The Advanced and higher plans also provide support from a dedicated account management team. All of these plans offer a range of options for automated backups, performance tuning, site migration, security audits and more.

Expert Cloud Help in 'Short Supply'

We contacted Fortune to learn more about the changes Media Temple is seeing in the cloud environment. "Demand for cloud managed services [is] really growing across the board," he told us. "Startups and enterprises alike have understood the value of the cloud, but need expert help to get the most out of it. And expert help like this is in short supply."

Fortune added that Media Temple's new managed services "cater to the business needs of creative agencies, Web developers, content providers, e-commerce, SaaS and enterprise businesses." Among the customers the company worked with in the pilot phase of its managed cloud services were Epicure Digital and Karma Labs.

Epicure Digital, which creates and delivers multimedia menus for restaurant customers, was quickly outgrowing its single-server platform, supported by just one developer. By shifting the company's architecture to AWS with the help of some new software development, Media Temple said it was able to deliver a high-availability solution while reducing Epicure's costs by 36 percent.

Karma, which aggregates data from social media and e-commerce platforms to provide trust-based scoring for online reviews, was able to build a new autoscaling infrastructure with Media Temple's help to scale its services more quickly and easily.

"It's not just about understanding what services the cloud offers (and AWS in particular) and how to use them, but having real experience building complex applications out in the cloud," Fortune told us. "Additionally, if you don't have any cloud expertise, it is quite expensive to source repeatable sysops-like services, either internally or externally."

Interesting post. I like to keep updated on what is happening in the cloud. Having a cloud service for your business in my opinion is essential. I currently use Logicworks' managed cloud AWS services, I find them to be a very secure. Definitely a good choice for AWS Services.

WebHS Implements SpamExperts Incoming Filtering and Joins Hosting Partner Program

15.07.2015 10:09:29 - Dutch email security company SpamExperts expands client pool with Portuguese web host WebHS.

(live-PR.com) - Amsterdam, July 13, 2015 – Portuguese web hosting company WebHS purchased SpamExperts Incoming Filtering deployed in the Local Cloud to use their own resources and servers to decrease the response time in their internal network. The company has been using SpamExperts for all their shared hosting servers, as well as for customers who need filtering on their dedicated services. WebHS is currently using the Incoming Filtering solution for 5,000 domains and plan on increasing the number of domains in the future.

"Before SpamExperts we used a solution from a competitor. This solution worked as expected, but it had some limitations, including the fact that it couldn't be managed centrally and it used a high amount of server resources. We started searching for a new solution with less impact, which would allow us to manage it centrally. In addition, we needed a more efficient user-friendly system for our final customers. SpamExperts provides the best solution which fully fulfills these requirements," explained Miguel Costa, WebHS CEO.

The implementation of the Incoming Filter proved to be a significant upgrade as it removes the entire load exerted by spam floods on their servers, thus increasing the performance of all their services. The fact that this solution requires zero maintenance, allows the tech team to work on other solutions and on improving th eir services.

"SpamExperts email filtering solutions enable web hosting providers to safeguard their customers' inboxes from spam and viruses (incoming filter) and protect their IP reputation (outgoing filter)", said Sam Renkema, SpamExperts CEO. "The partnership with WebHS is very important to us as it helps expand our customer base in Portugal, allowing end clients in this country to benefit from our solution for cost-effective, easy to manage email security services."

About WebHSThe WebHS® brand, created by the company WebSP Ltd, emerged in 2002 for online marketing services for content hosting in a shared environment and / or dedicated domain registration and professional backup solutions.

Web hosting company takes drastic action, bails out Greek customers

Popular web hosting company GoDaddy has started manually renewing expiring subscriptions of its Greek customers free of charge in order to help them keep afloat, sticking to a business-as-usual situation as much as possible.

More than half of companies in Greece are micro-enterprises with less than 10 employees with another third making the rest of the SMBs in the country.

Only subscriptions with auto-renewal will be extended to ensure that Greek customers remain online and continue getting customers through their virtual storefronts.

Key cloud services such as Apple's iCloud and iTunes and PayPal can no longer get payment from individuals and businesses in Greece.

Godaddy is mostly known for its web hosting deals and for the many controversies that surround the company. It also acquired a number of small startups (Canary, Mad Mimi and Elto) to beef up its service offering.

TransIP: the hosting company hoping that London goes Dutch

The canal in Amsterdam. Dutch hosting company TransIP is moving into the UK market. Photograph: Ruy Barbosa Pinto/Getty Images/Flickr RF

Leiden in The Netherlands is famous for two things. It is the birthplace of Dutch artist Rembrandt and it has the oldest university in the country, the University of Leiden, which was founded in 1575. Since April, this historic town has extended its links with the UK, as local hosting company TransIP has set up shop in London's TechCity.

Entering a market and location where hosting is extremely competitive was a bold move. It's launch event, Inspiration Centraal, was an eight day celebration of technology and entrepreneurialism and featured talks from the likes of Mindcandy founder Michael Acton-Smith. Over 3,500 people attended, considerably more than would bother to show for an ordinary product launch.

So is this approach the brainchild of TransIP CEO Jeroen Hüpscher, a former PR man for Porter Novelli and general manager of Jazz Radio in Holland?

Hüpscher seems modest, not wanting to take any credit. Perhaps he's a team player? Perhaps that's the point: TransIP does not expect events such as these to be all about the company.

Hüpscher says he wanted to "inspire" people and be associated with the idea that technology, no matter how functional and uninspiring, can actually provide the platform on which people can generate ideas. It's a big ask and he knows it but he's convinced the approach will work.

He talks warmly about his employees, especially the 40 coders who he says are central to the business as "they are the ones executing and often coming up with the ideas and innovation".

That innovation has so far enabled the business to thrive. The company, which started in an attic in 2003, now claims to have over 155,000 customers and owns more than 850,000 domains, making it the biggest hosting company in the Netherlands. In two months it will launch another product into its virtual server range and is drumming up ideas to launch it.

    So why London?

"We decided to look at communities that want to achieve things and have great ideas," says Hüpscher, "so we looked around and saw what was happening in London with TechCity. I felt there was an enormous match between startups here and our mentality at TransIP, so it made sense us being there."

He says reaction in the UK has been good, and claims that TransIP's machine in the cloud, that offers a choice of 14 operating systems, is well suited to startups but it's the company's culture that he reckons provides the real differentiation.

"Empowerment and technical knowledge," he says, when asked which two ideas best describe the business. "It's our mentality and understanding of startups that will help us succeed in this competitive space."

There are mainstream web hosts owned by huge corporations that offer free everything (such as popular host JustHost and budget host iPage, both brands owned by Endurance International Group), those that cater to WordPress sites (think Inmotion Hosting, HostGator or WP Engine) and some that specialize in VPS (virtual private server), dedicated server or cloud hosting plans.

Web hosting companies are located throughout the world. This is an important consideration if your site gets a lot of traffic from one or more global regions. Ideally, the host's datacenter, where the servers storing your website's data reside, should be located fairly close to your visitors. So, if you manage a website that caters to Australian clients, for example, you don't want your web host's servers stuck in a datacenter located all the way over in the United States because this may cause a lag in page loading speed.

There is a lot of information to sort through – and that's why Bitcatcha collects it all and shares it on their site. To use the Bitcatcha web hosting data aggregation, select the type of hosting, the way you use your site and your location to bring up a list of best choices. Or, you can simply scroll through the list of reviews to find a good match. Finally, read through interviews with real people just like you who give you the inside scoop on how a particular web host performs in several key areas.

I want to know right now! How fast is my website?

In addition to all the great content on Bitcatcha, including reviews, interviews and helpful articles, a Server Speed Checker tool is available for your use, free of charge and accessible 24/7/365. Nearly all website hosts say their servers are speedy, but few of them back this up with real results.

The Server Speed Checker provides another way to test a website host before you decide to buy (just put in the URL of a site comparable to yours hosted with the company in question). This nifty tool also lets you put in the URL of your own site and test the page loading speed for visitors across the globe with your current web host.

It's super simple: all you have to do is put in a website address and the Server Speed Checker tool goes to work obtaining the real IP address of the tested site and emulating page-loading speed from eight servers in various locations around the world. It then produces a letter grade (from A+ to F-) that represents a page-loading speed rating in comparison to other sites. It's really cool and completely free to use, plus it gives you a good deal of information not readily available elsewhere.

Before you make a decision to contract your first website hosting company – or to move your site's data to a new host's servers – it's best to be well-informed and know what to expect. Web hosting information site Bitcatcha, and its proprietary Server Speed Checker tool, help you do just that.
