Special Halloween Promo from SEMJar: Reliable and Affordable PBN Hosting. Available on October 28-31

SEMJar, a SEO company renowned for its affordable services, invites every business owner to celebrate Halloween by getting reliable PBN hosting. The offer gives one a chance to save $18 on a yearly package and get it for only $12. The promo is active between October 28th and 31st

Private Blog Networks (PBNs) are a potent SEO tool that can boost a website's ranking relatively fast. However, as search engines grow more sophisticated, they de-index more and more of these networks with every passing day.

It's reasonable as the search engine's AI considers them 'cheats'. However, an experienced and skilled SEO service and top-quality PBN hosting allow business owners to benefit from the opportunities offered by these networks. SEMJar is a company that knows all about SEO and can set up and host a PBN that will work exceptionally well.

With the latest Halloween promo from this SEO service, every business owner gets an opportunity to see just how good a stable PBN hosting can be for business. The special offer goes 'online' on the 28th of October and is only active until the 31st, so it's best to get onto it in time.

The promo cuts down the cost of a yearly PBN hosting package from $30 to $12. Even the smallest business can afford to spend $12 for a yearly service package. This time would be enough to see its true value, so the owner can decide whether they want to expand in the future and get additional PBN hosting accounts.

Benefits of PBNs for Business

There is a lot of controversy surrounding PBNs today, especially after the mass de-indexing by the Google. Some marketers shy away from them because they are too risky.

However, numerous field experts agree that this tool is definitely worth using. It's only badly made networks that get de-indexed, and hosting is a crucial part of that. When a business has a private network of blogs with quality content, hosted on a reliable server protected from hacker attacks and system failures, the PBN works like a charm for SEO.

The most important benefits offered by this technique are:

  • Control over the anchor text, links, etc.
  • An instant boost in authority
  • A chance to save lots of time due to extensive outreach
  • To learn more about the role of good hosting in PBN efficiency, check out the PBN Hosting page or contact SEMJar directly to learn more about their services and buy expired domains.

GoDaddy Built a Search Engine For Available Emoji Web Domains

GoDaddy has figured out how to win over millennials.

On Friday, the company, best known as a Web domain registration and hosting service, released a search engine to help customers find and register emoji-based domain names. That's right—emoji domain names.

This means anyone can now pay to own "🍷🍰.ws" or whatever combination of emoji that's still available. The domain search engine itself can be found at "❤️❤️❤️.ws" and GoDaddy says that emoji domain names are "100% compatible with all browsers" thanks to a technique browsers use to convert the code behind the scenes. The ".ws" extension, the top-level domain for Samoa, is one of the very few that supports emoji.

Get Data Sheet, Fortune's technology newsletter.

"Emojis have exploded in popularity, becoming an essential part of the online vernacular," GoDaddy senior director of product marketing Theresa McGinness Geraghty said in a statement sent to Fortune. "Driven by the rise of mobile internet usage, which now accounts for over 60% of traffic, consumers are integrating emojis into their conversations on social media, messaging and beyond."

Of course, the company also notes the marketing potential of emoji domains for brands, which some have already embraced. For example, Coca-Cola ran a campaign last year in Puerto Rico using emoji website domains on large billboards. Norwegian Airlines ran a campaign shortly after as well.

For more about emoji, watch this Fortune video:

According to GoDaddy, the first emoji domain was registered in 1995.

And to be clear, GoDaddy hasn't invented these emoji-based website domains—this is merely a search engine to make it easier to find and register available ones. One of the GoDaddy's employees build the search engine as part of a company "hackathon."

Select the Enterprise Web Hosting Assistance based on Your Family Needs

For a site it must be hosted on a server. A server can be any computer connected to the web. Your home computer can be transformed into a server with settings and the correct applications, but I don't believe that you'd trust your computer and home network to offer a dependable internet connection. That must be online on a regular basis so folks from all over the world would manage to open it anytime during the daytime or night, especially if you need to host a business site. Which web host should you pick for your business website?Jay Ho is Search Engine Optimization pro and an internet entrepreneur. He possesses one of the most well-known Search Engine Optimization firms in Washington DC. In this experience working with business websites that are different, he had to clarify the best way to pick the best hosting. So he decided to make business Web Hosting Reviews for future customers , so that they would choose substantially simpler the hosting server. First of all, you ought to know what are they types of web hosting, because as I said previously, you don't desire to host the site on your own computer's dwelling. The common web hosting refers to services that share just one server. The disadvantage of this kind of hosting is that the user has a small variety of characteristics, but it's quite economical, it really is a good start and if you do not need many attributes and not a lot of bandwidth. You could choose the dedicated web hosting, where the site is hosted on just one machine, after your business will grow a little. This kind of hosting enables the users to install any applications on the server, and use it if you work with unique applications as they like, therefore, it is better to pick a dedicated web hosting or the virtual dedicated server. A strong computer is used by the virtual dedicated server, but not at the full strength, as the machine has cre ated virtual small machines that are used for different servers. The newest add-on is the cloud hosting, which, as you probably have guessed, is almost invulnerable to power outages or hardware failures, because the info is hosted on different servers located in different parts of the world. This type of hosting has high price, just a number of drawbacks and the chance of a security breach. You can read more about business web and you can contact him, if you've got any question, he'll happily assist you. Internet Archive hosts all the gifs of 90s web giant GeoCities

All the hamsters of GifCities. Photograph: Internet Archive

If you're nostalgic for a certain time on the internet – a time before your Facebooks and your Twitters, when the only live video was grainy webcam links that updated one frame a minute and your favourite social network was that one forum you'd been on since 1995 – you could do worse than spend a few minutes today on the Internet Archive's latest project, GifCities.

    Under construction. Photograph: Internet Archive

The search engine is the best manifestation yet of the non-profit's mission to archive and catalogue the history of the net. It's a spin-off from the group's archive of GeoCities, an early web-hosting service that was launched in 1994 and let anyone make their own sites. At one point, the Internet Archive says, it was the third-most visited site on the web.

    A hamster

GeoCities was acquired by Yahoo in 1999, and at its peak hosted over 38m pages, but in 2009, Yahoo announced they would close the site, "at which point the Internet Archive attempted to archive as much of the content as possible".

My little pony. Photograph: Internet Archive

Those pages are still hosted, largely in their original form, by the group, but GifCities takes the whole thing a step further, pulling out the best part of late-90s internet: the gif.

    A skull. Photograph: Internet Archive

"Mining this collection, we extracted over 4,500,000 animated gifs (1,600,000 unique images) and then used the filenames and directory path text to build a best-effort "full text" search engine. Each gif also links back to the original GeoCities page on which it was embedded (and some of these pages are even more awesome than the gifs)," says the Internet Archive.

The group has already highlighted some of the best uses of the archive: "The Internet Archive's own Jason Scott has highlighted "Under Construction" GeoCities gifs, librarians at North Carolina State University had been interested in GeoCities gifs for use in their data visualisation lab, and researchers such as Ian Milligan had been datamining the full GeoCities web archive to explore community formation."

Decentralized hosting of AMP’s JavaScript & NPM for the web

Every AMP HTML document must at the very least contain the following script tag that is loading AMP's JavaScript from the AMP CDN:

There has been some critique of this design decision so I wanted to take the time to explain the reasoning behind it and lay out how to do better in the future.

The most obvious consequence of centrally hosting the JavaScript is that every AMP page on the internet is always on the latest release. A pull request to AMP's GitHub that makes AMP faster is typically deployed to all AMP pages on the internet within 2 weeks, making all AMP pages faster at once. No page is left behind.

Another big benefit of loading the very same JS URLs on every page is that this leads to much, much better utilization and hit rate of the browser cache. If you've been to an AMP page on publisher X, going to another AMP page on publisher Y will now be faster and cost less bandwidth. AMP is currently in the process of shipping a foreign-fetch ServiceWorker that will make this even more impactful.

Finally, having all AMP pages use explicitly shared JavaScript opens up the possibility of additional optimization by the AMP Caches. While there are a set of requirements for AMP Caches, they don't actually need to use AMP's own JavaScript URLs. Knowing what version (the latest) of AMP a page is compatible with, they can then go and perform additional optimizations using similar techniques to an optimizing compiler. This would be infeasible if they'd need to support what would effectively be all AMP releases ever.

There are, of course, some valid reasons why using centrally hosted JS might not be such a great idea. We do mitigate some of them:

  • AMP is designed to gracefully deal with the JS failing to load.
  • AMP is rolled out slowly across pages to catch and fix errors before the full release.
  • Developers can opt into the "AMP Dev Channel" to test their site with a new release before it is pushed to users.
  • The JS is loaded from a domain that doesn't have cookies (avoiding the possibility of tracking through them).
  • Caching (especially with the foreign-fetch ServiceWorker active) leads to the JS being downloaded rarely (further avoiding possibly correlation of IP addresses and referrers).
  • AMP is 100% open source. Everybody can check that the JS being served from the CDN is exactly what is in the open source repo.
  • Decentralized hosting of JavaScript files

Having said this, the AMP Project is very interested in supporting decentralized hosting of its JavaScript files.

"Build a decentralized cross-internet 3P script repository with semver semantics."

Our idea is to build a decentralized cross-internet 3P script repository with semver semantics (Think NPM, but with first class support in the web platform and with multiple providers). That could achieve many of the same goals that I outlined above (AMP would mandate wildcarding the patch level in the semver version). Many of us had hopes that subresource integrity could bring some of the cross site caching benefits, but unfortunately that comes with privacy problems (it allows finding out which sites a user has been to) and thus cannot be taken advantage of in web browsers. By limiting such a feature to well known repositories that can be controlled by the user, one could get the clear benefits in a privacy friendly way.

Here is how this would look like:

With this a page author can say:

  • I'd like to load this library.
  • Dear browser: Check if the user has a version of it from a set of hosts the client trusts.
  • If that is not available, load the library from a given location (that may be local).
  • I think such a mechanism would be a great benefit to most web applications and would likely save users from downloading many petabytes of data every day.

Lifetime.Hosting Review ~ Host your website for life without paying renewal fees!

    12

Lifetime.Hosting Review -> Get premium Web Hosting & Domain name for life without monthly or yearly renewal fees. Check them out here

The web hosting industry has become so competitive with the Internet growing to every part of the globe.

For anyone to have a personal or business website or blog, you need a domain name and hosting. Generally, both cost money and require a monthly/yearly fee.

Apart from the domain name and mere web space, you will need many more elements around your hosting to ensure your website is always available and business not interrupted. These include things like backup services and tools, email services, security tools, etc

All of these come in a 24/7 maintenance package that justifies any recurring payment. Your files are hosted on remote servers (Computer hardware and software) that needs constant update and upgrade.

In addition, these material environment is supervised by well-trained qualified  men and women working round the clock for wages.

No one has ever risen to contest web hosting and domain name renewal fees for obvious reasons.  Once you pay for hosting, you expect to have all you pay for. If you fail to renew, your services are suspended and you won't sue any one.

But Lifetime.Hosting claim they don't charge monthly fees for lifetime web hosting and domain name!

lifetime hosting reviewYou have everything available in a premium web hosting package for a one time payment.

No recurring fee, no nothing 😉

Visit Lifetime.Hosting! LITERALLY the last web hosting you will ever buy

Let's take a closer look at some of the things they offer in their lifetime web hosting packages:

    First, you will pay once…

No recurring monthly or yearly payment for life.

    Yes, for life.

But what do you get in the package?

Lifetime.Hosting Review : What you get! 1- Two Lifetime Domain Registrations with Privacy

When you buy a hosting package from Lifetime.Hosting, you are given 2 free domains for life. However, these are only limited to these name extensions:

  • co.business,
  • .co.education,
  • .co.financial,
  • .co.network,
  • .co.technology,
  • .co.place,
  • .co.events.
  • That implies if you want a top level domain name like .com, .net, .org, .info, etc, you will have to pay an additional domain name fee.

    2 – Mobile / Responsive Site Builder

You won't have to worry about hiring an expensive webmaster to create your company site. With the new and improved , drag and drop site builder, you will have an easy-to-use tool to create a mobile friendly website. You have an easy tool that allows you to easily create photos galleries, web forms, voting polls, web pages, menus, etc

    3 – 5 GB Lifetime Backup Storage

In web hosting, backup facilities are a serious requirement. This is the only way to make sure you get your site back should it be hacked.

However, backup tools are often not free. They come with an additional fee. But Lifetime.Hosting has up to 5 GB storage space per client, for life. If you need additional space, you should face a bill.

    4 – 3,000 Royalty-Free Stock Photos

We've been told several times that images speak a 1000 times louder than text. That's why a webpage without eye candy graphics is a source of laziness.

Lifetime.Hosting has worked out a licensing deal with different Stock Photo providers to provide you with 3,000 Royalty-Free high quality images. These are available so you may download, modify and use as you want.

Here are more web hosting items you get in their packages:

  • Unlimited Email Accounts (unlimited 500 MB email accounts, forwarders and auto-responders)
  • cPanel Control Panel
  • Applications & Tools (Install WordPress, Joomla, osCommerce, etc)
  • Enterprise RAID Storage
  • Unlimited 24/7 Support
  • Check out Lifetime.Hosting Stop Paying your Hosting and Domain Providers

Lifetime.Hosting also throws in hot bonuses

    lifetime web hosting

There are two packages as I write this post:

  • $47 paid once for 4 websites
  • $87 paid once for 12 websites
  • lifetime hosting

These are promotional prices so you will have to act fast to benefit from them.

NB: If you have just one website, you can buy their Bronze Plan for $19.95 paid once. This has a capacity of 250 MB SSD-Optimized Storage.

    What about their refund policy?

The refund policy is your protection. If within 30 days you think Lifetime.Hosting isn't good enough, you simply contact the support desk for a complete refund of your money – including the domain name.

    Here is what I think…

I want to end this Lifetime.Hosting review by telling you my opinion.

I have a couple of websites online I pay monthly for hosting and yearly for domain name. They run quite well and I don't complain. As a matter of fact, this blog is currently being hosted by WPX Hosting and I pay $24 a month.

However, I'm going to give Lifetime.Hosting a try. I will be hosting one of my next sites with them. From what I see, they should be good for a try.

Let me know what you think…

Drop a comment below and let's talk. If you like this post, share it on social media.

Where Web Hosting Companies Stand on the 2016 Inc. 5000

Recently the 2016 Inc 5000 List of America's fastest-growing companies was released. To be listed you need growth, but first, you have to apply.

This year ten companies made my list of WHIR-centric companies, down from last year. The drop? I decided one company was not relevant; GoDaddy went public, and three others either did not make the list or did not apply. Namecheap is the only new addition.

I added one column that is not listed on the 5000 list: a direct comparison between 2015 and 2014 revenues. As an M&A professional I find it valuable, and the first item I added to my private spreadsheet. It also goes to demonstrate how one year can skew the three-year track that is used by Inc. magazine.

I believe The Achilles Heel for most hosting companies is the requirement that your revenues be on an accrual basis. Starting out, hosting firms use cash accounting. This disqualifies those concerns from making the list in what usually are high growth years.

SEE ALSO: Inc. 5000 – Where Hosting Ranks in 2015

    About the list:

    2016 Inc. 5000 Inc. Rank Company 3 yr. Growth 2015 Revenues in Millions 2014 Revenues in Millions (If Available) 1 Yr Growth       2014 vs 2015 1285 Edge Solutions 300% $ 46.9 $23.0 103.9% 1796 ColoCrossing 207% $8.9 $8.0 11.3% 2019 Wowrack.com 184% $ 5.5 $6.7 -17.9% 2944 Namecheap 117% $ 76 3128 Aldridge 108% $16.4 $15.1 8.6% 3898 Edge Hosting 76% $17.6 $15.6 12.8% 4423 Nothing But NET 58% $ 2.5 $2.3 8.7% 4894 ServerCentral 44% $ 37.8 $36.4 3.8% 4953 SingleHop 42% $ 41.2 $36.4 13.2% 4985 Liquid Web 40% $ 69.6 $65.1 6.9%

This year Inc.'s overall #1 fastest growing company in the United States is Loot Crate. Over the last three years it grew 66,789 percent and in 2015 had revenues of $116.2 million. The company sends monthly mystery boxes to over 600,000 subscribers. Theme-filled crates as described by the company as a "curated collection of awesome items from the best pop culture franchises delivered to your door every month." Wish I had invented it.

Being on the list has benefits. Many companies use it as a sales tool. Current and prospective customers like the Inc. Magazine stamp of approval. Most recipients take advantage of local and national press releases touting their listing; their company has come of age, and of course has great growth.

Why should you be on the list? The biggest benefit can be monetary. The mother's milk of continued growth is money, and the one thing that investors love is growth. This is a marriage made in heaven. The Inc. 5000 is a shopping list for bankers. If you are high on the list, you will be beating them off with a stick.

To be listed you need to make a formal application, fill out the forms, write a check for $150, and you are under consideration. It is all based on revenues; you don't have to worry about pesky operating statements, balance sheets, or things like profits. The real requirement is a minimum of $2 million verified annual revenues using accrual accounting.

If over the last three years your revenue growth was near or over 40 percent you have a good chance of breaking in.

Do you want to make the 2017 edition? Other than growth you need to have generated revenue by Mar. 31, 2013, had total revenues of at least $100,000 in 2013 and finally have the minimum of $2 million in 2016.

    Later, Tom

Deploy ASP DotNet Core Web Applications on Ubuntu Linux (AWS EC2) behind Apache Server

    Introduction

I am writing this article as a result of my learning for deploying ASP.NET Core web applications on Linux boxes. There is a lot of information available on writing these apps, scattered all around the web.

In this article I have tried to connect all the pieces together and produced a full-fledged article on deploying ASP .NET core web applications behind apache server on Linux servers.

This article is more of hands on rather than a deep dive into the concepts. It's more about joining the two worlds of windows and Linux.

    Pathway

.NET Core is an open source framework, that can be used to write cross platform .NET applications. But when writing Web Applications in .NET Core, no Production Web Server provides direct compatibility to .NET applications. To solve the problem, the .NET Core community is providing a lightweight server (Kestrel server) that emulates a cross platform environment to run these web application. Being lightweight, lot of features of a production web server are missing in Kestrel server. So we hide the kestrel server behind a production ready proxy server (in this case Apache server).

    Platform

For this article, I have use Ubuntu Linux 16.04 virtual machine on Amazon EC2.

    Steps

Here is a list of steps that one would follow to arrive to a solution:

  • Setup Linux environment (e.g. Ubuntu Linux on Amazon EC2)
  • Install .NET Core on a Linux system
  • Create a minimal .NET Core Web application
  • Publish the web application
  • Deploy the application using the Supervisor monitoring service
  • Test the application directly on Kestrel server
  • Install Apache server on Linux
  • Configure apache as proxy to the Kestrel server running our web application
  • and of couse finally testing your application on internet

Get to work Setting Up Ubuntu Linux on Amazon EC2

For this article i am using free version on Ubuntu Linux on Amazon EC2.

The steps to create the VM can be followed easily on https://console.aws.amazon.com

Once created, instance of your virtual machine would look something like this:

Next step is to be able to SSH to this machine. It is pretty straightforward for Linux / Mac OS . Window users generally prefer putty (available at http://www.putty.org/ ) to SSH to this remote VM.

While creating the VM, amazon will provide a private key (in *.pem format in case you choose to add a new key). This can be converted to *.ppk format using puttygen utility (available at https://winscp.net/eng/docs/ui_puttygen).

After you have generated the *.ppk file,

screens below shows how SSH connection to EC2 is opened using putty:

With those three pieces on information, we are ready to open terminal session to the remote machine.

Once connected, it login to the ubuntu user as show:

Installing .NET Core on Linux system

The steps are pretty straight forward and are available on the .NET Core official website http://www.microsoft.com/net/core#ubuntu. Once installed, you will be able to run the dotnet command on terminal.

Following are the commands to install dotnet from the article in the link above for Ubuntu 16.04:

  • sudo sh -c 'echo "deb [arch=amd64] https://apt-mo.trafficmanager.net/repos/dotnet-release/ xenial main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/dotnetdev.list'
  • sudo apt-key adv --keyserver apt-mo.trafficmanager.net --recv-keys 417A0893
  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get install dotnet-dev-1.0.0-preview2-003131
  • dotnet
  • the last command would confirm that dotnet is installed.

Create a .NET Core Web application

Following are the steps to create a minimal .NET Core Web application, that does nothing else than saying 'Hello' on the browser.

    > We create a directory for our application (here /home/ubuntu/myapp)

    >Use vi editor (I did) , or an editor of your choice to edit the project.json file.

    > Make sure your project.json file looks like the one below (here we are addding Kestrel server & logging dependencies):

if using vi editor, save the file using :w <enter> , close the file using :q <enter> (though to mention this for people who are not at all used to Linux environment).

    > Next is to create a Startup.cs file.

    > A lot of information is available about application startup on .Net Core official website. You might like to go through this link : https://docs.asp.net/en/latest/fundamentals/startup.html

    > Next step is to add console to the loggerFactory (using AddConsole so that we are able to see logs on the terminal/command line), capture a logger instance to be used for request logging.

    > Modify Startup.cs file, with a middleware (configured using app.Run), that would fuse each request that comes to the server and respond with text 'hello'.

Finally the Startup.cs file should look like the one below :

    > modify Program.cs file

    > The main method configure a web host to run on kestrel server, listen to URL's that match "http://*:4000".

    > placing a star is ://*: is important so that when running the application, its accessible from outside world. In most articles you would find it to be localhost (e.g. http://localhost:5000 ) but that's not good enough for accessing on network.

    > save the file & quit editor.

    > run "dotnet restore" on the terminal

    > followed by "dotnet build" and "dotnet run", scrheenshow below show that server is started and is listening the configured url.

    Publish the Web Application

Next step is to publish the application using "dotnet publish" command.

published files are shown in screenshot below:

Deploy the application using the Supervisor monitoring service:

Supervisor is a monitoring application that will run & monitor our .Net Core application The configuration for the applications to run is specified in *.conf files in /etc/supervisor/conf.d/ directory.

    > Install supervisor service :

    > Create deployment folder in /var (in this case /var/netcore/myapp):

    > Copy the published output files to deployment folder:

    > Create configuration file for the application myapp, to be picked by the supervisor inside /etc/supervisor/conf.d directory :

myapp.conf should look like the one below :

    > Stop supervisor service & start again :

Test the application directly on Kestrel server

In the example, we have run hosted our application on http://*:4000 , by default this port won't be accessible to the world on amazon Linux ec2 instance. To make it accessible, we need to modify our security group inbound rules, and allow tcp traffic from port 4000 as shown here:

Once TCP accss to port 4000 is enabled, we can now open the browser to test our application :

    BINGO!

As we know, here the application is running on Kestrel server which is not a full fledged web server. It is recommended that in production environment we should be running Kestreel behind a production web server such as IIS, nginx or apache. Furthermore, browsers by default sent request on port 80 to the web servers. On Linux we might be running other servers & applications such as tomcat / nginx etc.. So its not a good idea to expose Kestrel server directly on port 80, since it would block the port 80 (not being capable enough to act as proxy server / load balancer). So its best to have a full fledged server routing the requests to required port on the machine.

In this example we will place our kestrel sever behind the apache server using reverse proxy. The details are listed below.

    Install Apache server on Linux:

    install apache2 using following command:

    "apt-get install apache2"

It would start automatically, and you will be able to check the default page on your browser:

Configure apache as proxy to the Kestrel server:

The default page that can be seen above is configured in apache config files available at /etc/apache2/sites-available/

Let's say we want to run our 'myapp' application on the url http://<domain name>/myapp ,

we can make changes in configurations to assing proxy from /myapp to localhost:4000 (where myapp is hosted on kestrel). The steps to do this are listed below:

    > Disable default configuration of apache server using a2dissite (the default config file is 000-default.conf)

    > create proxy configuration file in /etc/apache2/sites-available/proxies.conf

    > make entries to add /myapp as proxy to the url http://localhost:4000 (the kestrel server url for myapp). the proxies.conf file should look like the one below:

    > enable proxy configuration using a2ensite command

    > enable mod proxy using following commands :

    > restart apache2 using "service apache2 restart"

    > Test the application from default port using proxy path (http://<domain or ip>/myapp in the browser as shown:

    And we are done!

Our application is running on the default port :80/myapp!!

How to Securely Host Your Website, Email and DNS

    dns

As a web developer working on a variety of B2B web designs and launches, internet security is very important. If your firm has a website or email, you should also be concerned about security. There are several things I recommend to our clients and to prospective clients to enhance their firm's online security.

First, for stability, redundancy, and capacity, your firm should decouple your website, email, and DNS services immediately. Many firms run DNS, email, and website on a single dedicated-virtual server. This type of setup has zero fault tolerance and is not secure.

Most hosting companies use a storage method called "RAID 5." This means that all of the data for your company – email, DNS, and website – are potentially stored on hard drives that have a 1-drive fault tolerance. So if two of these storage drives broke, all of your digital services would go down, and it would likely take a while to recover everything.

If the server goes down, everything will go down.

Below, I've outlined a few simple steps that will dramatically enhance the security of your website, email, and DNS by decoupling them.

    Recommended for You

Webcast, November 8th: How to Hack Sales and Personal Branding

    How to Manage Your DNS

My first suggestion is to manage your domain name system (DNS) through a service like CloudFlare. Their introductory package is free (and works very well), and they have other technologies that speed up your site around the world.

    How to Manage Your Email

My second suggestion is to move up to a business-grade email platform, like Microsoft Exchange. Through Office 365, you can get Microsoft Exchange for only $4/month/user.

    How to Host Your Website

Bop Design is a WordPress agency, so this suggestion applies to websites that are built on WordPress. My third suggestion is to host your B2B website on a platform that's designed for "WordPress" hosting, like GoDaddy Managed WordPress. They automatically apply certain security patches to a WordPress installation and have specially designed servers to speed up WordPress, itself.

    Why You Want Redundancy

What this decoupling offers is an incredible amount of redundancy. If your website hosting goes down, it doesn't affect your email. DNS is unlikely to go down, since CloudFlare has so much redundancy. Your Exchange email will also have a ton of redundancy.

    The Risk Is Real

What I'm getting at is that you have a very high level of risk if anything happens to a dedicated virtual server that is hosting your website, email, and DNS. Even it if has to be rebooted, you temporarily lose all three of your core services. And say there was a natural disaster at their datacenter facility – or some other kind of outage – you could be looking at days of downtime.

It Will Cost You…But It's Worth It

The downside of this is cost. As of the time of publication, a typical bill for hosting all three services on a virtual server is about $500/year. The services I have outlined above would look like this:

    Hosting: $5/month * 12 = $60

    Exchange: $4/month * 50 users * 12 = $2,400

    CloudFlare: Free tier

    Total: $2,460/year

This price is significantly higher than the $500 but provides a lot of performance and risk mitigation. For example, if our website went down, as a digital marketing agency, it would be detrimental to our business. Email is a close second. Think of how many customers we would lose if our website was down for a few hours or even a full day! Who wants to work with a firm who doesn't have a website that works?

    Everyone Else Is Doing It

It is extremely rare, today, to find all of these services tied together on the same server. More and more, firms that are serious about protecting their online services, privacy, and intellectual property are decoupling these services and investing in a separate website, email, and DNS hosting services.

Prime Advantages Of Using Dedicated Server Hosting

The chances are you run into what's called committed host hosting if you began looking at different internet hosting providers, whether or not it's a good choice of course if this is the case, you may be thinking. Your first priority at this point is to comprehend exactly what this type of company entails. In a nutshell, a separate web-hosting support ensures that your website is going to be published on the machine. In contrast, nearly all websites are hosted on computers that were distributed. Every type has disadvantages and an unique advantages.

The obvious benefit of shared-hosting may be the dramatically reduced expenses, but for several companies, you can find more important elements which have to be considered. Like, dedicated server hosting is in a totally unique league in terms of memory; efficiency; storage more. Several bigger websites particularly realize that shared website hosting companies are simply just not perfect.

About deciding if dedicated host hosting is the better selection how does one actually go? Here are a few illustrations that are basic conditions where this type of remedy would probably function as best option:

    1. The nature of your website that is new determines that you simply, as the site proprietor, will have to have a lot of control on the machine and its own performance from the start.

    2. You're previously using a server that is shared, but feel that you need extra features such etc and improved Memory.

Ok, given that we've touched on two fundamental types of when specific host hosting may be the best selection, let us take a look at some of the key advantages these kind of hosts could offer:

    Profit No. 1 – Performance

Essentially the most obvious advantage of specific host hosting will be the performance that is excellent. If you have a complicated site which involves a great deal of control power this can be specially essential,. When you have a website which draws a huge quantity of readers the exact same concept applies. The best way to ensure the smooth running of this kind of site is always to move far from shared hosting.

    Reward No. 2 – Reliability

Distributed servers are extremely prone to crashing and other kinds of troubles that are best avoided. Server hosting about the other hand hardly ever crashes, which, along with reaction times that are quicker means it gives a much larger degree of consistency.

Reward No. 3 – Improved Security

Internet stability is a major matter for all firms these days, and also this alone is motive enough for a few organizations to make use of specific server. Remember, the sites you can find being hosted the more susceptible, on the distinct server etc. By not having to share a server, in addition, you get rid of the danger of your internet site being attacked by shared worms and that server becomes to hackers.

    Advantage No. 4 – Mobility

Because you will function as the only one utilizing your unique machine, you should have the freedom increase and to grow your website when and as required. Almost all sites that are successful accomplish a spot where expansion becomes certain, so when this happens, they routinely need more bandwidth. With shared-hosting, this is quite often difficult considering that the servers happen to be functioning at full capability. Remember, bandwidth that is greater means better rates, plus a speed that is greater indicates to your readers that a really skilled site is managing.

The benefits mentioned previously are really just the end of the iceberg as it pertains to dedicated server hosting. There are still many more reasons why specific machines have become so greatly common, as well as their attractiveness is growing constantly. It is not the lowest priced selection, but sometimes one really does need-to look beyond the cost to appreciate the actual benefits.

Deter WordPress Hackers With 5 Security Essentials from Liquid Web

LANSING, Mich., Oct. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hacking attacks cost the average American firm $15.4 million per year. During October, which is National Cyber Security Awareness Month, Liquid Web, a $100 million web hosting and cloud services provider, urges WordPress users to help prevent attacks by addressing five critical areas of security.

WordPress is the web's most popular content management system, and collectively its users publish more than 58 million new pages each month. Ninety-nine percent of more than 75 million WordPress sites are secure, but that still leaves one percent, which includes more than 750,000 sites that are potentially vulnerable. WordPress users can make sure they stay out of the one percent by addressing these five critical areas of security:

Site SecurityThe most important thing you can do to protect your WordPress site is to keep your software up to date. Compatibility concerns often influence administrators to take the wait-and-see approach. Instead of acting quickly, they may keep an eye out for issues flagged before updating an older plugin. In reality, timing is critical and updates should be applied as quickly as possible. By default, WordPress will apply security updates, but plugins and themes need to be updated regularly by the administrator.

Dashboard SecurityHackers like to target the path of least resistance, so it's important to increase security on your login page to repel these automated assaults. By restricting IP access, installing password protection and limiting login attempts, administrators can double the number of credentials needed to login and reduce the number of password guesses, making a would-be attacker's work more difficult.

User Security Enable two-factor authentication. Most sites already use this, and its widespread adoption rate keeps growing because it works. It requires users to log in with a one-time-use code tied to a personal device in addition to their user name and password. Requiring a minimum password strength and enforcing password expiration for users are common ways to prevent attacks. WordPress admins can enable these additional security measures through plugins.

Code SecuritySecure your code by putting your site to the test regularly using security plugins and most importantly, employing CAPTCHAs (Completely Automated Public Turing Test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) on every form. While these automated form filters can be annoying, they are effective and can severely limit damage that can be inflicted by site attackers.

Server SecurityAll WordPress files and folders should have proper permissions and ownership; this basic step is often overlooked. Applying these controls can deny attackers the ability to upload malicious files and execute code that can compromise not only your site, but your server as well.

Liquid Web recommends these simple steps to help hinder hackers, not only during National Cyber Security Awareness Month, but also for the life span of your WordPress site.

"Liquid Web wants to ensure all our users are safe from vulnerabilities," said Liquid Web CTO Joe Oesterling. "One of the unique qualities is that our products, like Managed WordPress, enable users to worry less because of our built-in firewalls and SSL configuration."

By following Liquid Web's basic guidelines for user, code and server security, website managers can make a hacker's job far more trouble than its worth, ideally driving attackers away from the site. "Liquid Web is continuing to grow with our products and recent acquisition of Rackspace's Cloud Sites," said Oesterling. "Educating our users about cyber security awareness is the upmost priority. At Liquid Web we want to ensure our tools are performing at their maximum strength, which is why we stay up to date with the latest security measures and also give our users the tools to make their sites secure."

These include email optin, page builder, and backup plugins. Lastly, we will debate the importance of employing a team to support your website.

    Purchase a Premium WordPress Theme

    Total WordPress Theme

An easy, yet effective way to improve your WordPress website is to purchase a premium theme. A premium theme will advance your website in numerous ways.

As well as being aesthetically pleasing, premium themes, on the whole, create a much better user experience for your visitors. This helps increase the time users stay on your site. In turn, they will be more likely to perform the actions you wish, like submitting an email address or purchasing a product.

A premium theme also makes your job as a website owner much easier. With more tools and features at your disposal, you can create a site that closely matches your specifications, that is in line with your brand, and can promote your business or products effectively.

    Upgrade Your Web Host

    WPEngine Managed WordPress Hosting

When you first start out with a WordPress site, hosting is the least of your worries. Most new website owners opt for the cheapest and most basic options. However, as your site grows and you start receiving more traffic, you will need to upgrade your hosting provider.

An advanced web hosting service will help increase your site speed, and help your site run smoothly. There are many web hosts out there and it can be hard to know how to choose the best WordPress hosting option for your site.

WPEngine is a premium managed WordPress hosting solution that is popular with businesses and professional bloggers. For other hosting companies, have a read of our recommended WordPress hosting providers.

Invest in a Good Backup Plugin

    VaultPress for WordPress

A good backup plugin is an essential piece of equipment for a successful WordPress website. If you don't backup you, it could cost you time, visitors, money, and ultimately your whole site. By using a WordPress backup plugin, you can help ensure that whatever the problem, be it a hosting issue, hackers, a virus, or a technical hitch, you can reinstall your site easily and quickly.

VaultPress, by Automattic, offers backups, site migration, and security, amongst other features. It will automatically backup your site on a regular basis. Most importantly, it keeps an entire history of backups that can be accessed and restored at a click of a button. An effective backup solution is one that you can rely on should the inevitable happen. VaultPress is very easy to use.

    Start Using an Optin Plugin

    OptinMonster Premium Optin Plugin

An optin plugin can help you achieve many of your site goals, whatever they may be. If you're trying to grow your mailing list, encourage social shares or follows, promote your blog, or sell products, a good WordPress optin plugin can help.

OptinMonster is a great example of a premium upgrade that can help generate more leads from your site. It comes with a drag-and-drop builder that enables you to produce stunning forms in minutes. You can create lightbox popups, floating bars, slide-ins and more, all displaying your targeted messages and content. The form designs all optimized for the highest conversion rates.

OptinMonster also uses exit intent technology, which detects when a visitor is just about to leave your site. At this moment they are shown a targeted campaign, helping to convert leaving visitors into subscribers and customers. Other features include A/B split testing and analytics, to help you measure results.

As you can see OptinMonster has extensive tools and options to help your site convert against its goals. And as you can track its success rate, you can quickly see how it pays for itself.

    Acquire a Page Builder

    Beaver Builder

If your theme doesn't come with a page builder then you should look to acquire one. There are many page builders to choose from and it can be difficult to know which one to select. However, if you are looking to invest in, and improve your WordPress website, then you should opt for a premium solution.

We recommend the Visual Composer, which is it bundled with our Total WordPress theme as well as many of the most popular premium WordPress themes on the web. It includes tons of great built in options for front-end page building to create custom layouts for page, posts and custom post types (checkout all the features in our detailed Visual Composer page builder guide). Plus there are hundreds of add-ons and extensions from third parties to make it easy to integrate Visual Composer with your website.

Beaver Builder is another powerful drag-and-drop design system for WordPress that we'd also recommend. Built for beginners and professionals alike, it can help you build a customized site in minutes. Beaver Builder is a front end website builder, that comes with homepage and content page layouts. It also includes a range of modules that you can choose from, among many other features.

To create a beautiful custom website, investing in a WordPress page builder plugin is a must.

    Build a Support Team

    build a team

Once your website has begun to generate a regular income, it is well worth considering employing a support team. A support team would consist of a group of professionals who you can trust to work on and improve your WordPress website.

There are many excellent freelancers available online. A graphic designer could create a custom logo for you. A web designer could give your WordPress theme a custom tweak. A copywriter could add extra excitement to your content. Bloggers can create interesting articles that rank in the search engines and attract more visitors. Social Media Marketers can run your social media campaigns for you, saving you time and generating more leads.

Industry experts can add the professional touches that make the difference between a site and business that visitors love and one that they leave. Creating a support team around you that you can call on when needed to optimize your site is money well spent.

    Final Thoughts

There are many WordPress products that you can spend your money on. However, before you do so, do all you can to ensure it will be a good investment. Check if it's a solution you will see returns on, or that will truly benefit your business. Also, be sure there isn't an effective free option you can use instead.

Sometimes it can be hard to know whether to opt for a free or premium service. One of the important perks of premium options is the customer service and support you receive. One to one help from an expert, that comes with many premium products, is well worth paying for. It can save you time, improve your website, and ultimately make you money.

Pagely Looks Back at 7 Years of WordPress Hosting

Managed WordPress hosting provider Pagely is celebrating its 7th birthday, according to an extensive blog post on its history, which goes back to 2009 with the launch of Page.ly v1.0.

Now, of course the managed WordPress hosting market is booming. But back then the industry was much different, as Pagely explains.

In 2006, when it was a small web design agency, Pagely introduced a prototype "website builder" service with automated deployment and self-service content management. Some 30 existing Pagely clients added it to their services, and as the company sought to expand its business beyond fee-based client services a few years later, it discovered that most were still subscribed.

Pagely revived the original project, added plugin automation, improved security, and defaulted popular caching plugin settings for speed. The company says its first competitors entered the market in mid-2010, and describes an evolved service market ranging from inexpensive GoDaddy, through mid-market WP Engine, to premium WordPress VIP enterprise products.

A report from earlier this year showed increased site visits and increasing budgets for agency WordPress projects.

Pagely offers "mid-tier" managed WordPress hosting in addition to its enterprise services. Pagely cites a recent enterprise deployment of a $20,000 a month multi-node, multi-region Amazon-backed cluster as representative of the high-end of that market.

    3-tiers-of-managed-wordpress

In the future, Pagely sees further technology-side commoditization. It also sees continued WordPress adoption among enterprises and competition among managed WordPress hosting providers cementing the platform's popularity.  This in turn will drive M&A activity, which could in turn open diverse niche opportunities.

Report: GoDaddy Among Interested Buyers for Host Europe Group

As the October 10 deadline approaches for non-binding offers for Host Europe Group (HEG), sources have told Reuters that Deutsche Telekom, United Internet, and GoDaddy are among the companies preparing or considering bids. After Brexit-related market volatility slowed the process of HEG parent company Cinven taking bids, it is now hopeful of signing a deal before Christmas, the sources said.

Reports emerged in June that Deutsche Telekom was considering acquiring HEG to merge it with Strato, its web hosting subsidiary. Private equity fund Hellman & Friedman is reported to be working with Deutsche Telekom, and was thought to be interested as early as April, when Cinven's intentions to sell were first reported.

    Read more:

Bids are expected to approach the asking price of €1.7 billion ($1.9 billion) reported at the time, though reports also said HEG is expected to be valued at 10 or 11 times its core earnings of 140 million euros. Rackspace's multiple was significantly lower when it was acquired for $4.3 billion by Apollo Global Management in August.

GoDaddy investors KKR and Silver Lake were also mentioned as possible suitors in April, and adding HEG would give GoDaddy a major boost to its presence in Europe. Endurance International Group investor Warburg Pincus was also mentioned in the April report, and sources said that it is teaming with United Internet on its bid.

The latest report also includes buyout funds Providence, Permira, and EQT as possible bidders. None of the companies mentioned in the report commented.

It also says potential bidders are significantly more interested in HEG's mass market hosting business, and would value its managed hosting unit at a lower multiple. This could potentially open the door for a two-step process, in which the units are separated during or after the purchase.

GoDaddy and Deutsche Telekom Are Among the Top Bidders for a German Web Host

Deutsche Telekom and United Internet are preparing rival bids for German web hosting provider Host Europe Group (HEG) ahead of an Oct. 10 deadline for non-binding offers, sources involved in the process told Reuters.

HEG, one of Europe's largest independent web hosting firms, was put up for sale by private equity firm Cinven before the summer but the process was put on ice due to market volatility resulting from Britain's vote to leave the EU.

Cinven has now resumed efforts to sell the web hosting firm, which is valued at about 1.5 billion euros ($1.7 billion), the sources said. It wants to receive indicative offers next week, and is hoping to sign a deal before Christmas, they said.

Deutsche Telekom has teamed up with U.S. private equity fund Hellman & Friedman while United Internet is working on a bid with U.S. buyout fund Warburg Pincus, the sources said.

Web hosting firm GoDaddy gddy , owned by private equity firms KKR and Silver Lake, is also considering a bid for Host Europe which would help it gain scale in Europe, one of the sources said.

Some buyout funds including Providence, Permira, and EQT may also decide to enter the bidding, the sources said.

Cinven, Deutsche Telekom, United Internet, GoDaddy, Warburg Pincus, Providence, EQT, and Permira declined to comment.

Get Data Sheet, Fortune's technology newsletter.

Bidders are expected to value HEG at about 10 or 11 times its core earnings of 140 million euros, the sources said, giving it a valuation of about 1.5 billion euros ($1.7 billion), including debt.

The business generates the bulk of its revenues from its mass-market hosting services, one of the sources said, adding that some of the bidders are less interested in its other unit, known as "managed hosting," and would value this at a much lower multiple.

Deutsche Telekom plans to use its own web hosting subsidiary Strato as a platform to launch a bid for HEG, the sources said. Hellman & Friedman will retain a majority stake in the event of a successful bid, and Strato will act as a minority investor, one of the sources said.

United Internet, instead, wants to have a controlling stake in HEG while its partner Warburg Pincus will be granted a minority stake, the source said.

HEG manages websites and software in the cloud and supplies domain name registration to business clients. It was founded nearly two decades ago in Germany and has changed owners several times since then.

Its peers in the mass market segment include U.S. rival Endurance—partly backed by Warburg Pincus—as well as GoDaddy. Application hosts range from Silicon Valley's Rackspace up to industry giant Amazon Web Services.
