Staten Island man busted in 'dark web' child porn probe
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A Staten Island man has been snared in the ongoing federal probe of a secret child pornography web server with more than 200,000 members.
Federal authorities have accused Luis Escobosa of using the Tor network – a so-called "dark web" service that allows its users to go online anonymously – to access child pornography.
Escobosa, whose age and home community were not released by federal authorities, joined a web site described in court documents as "Website A" and "Playpen" on Feb. 4 of this year, prosecutors allege. A source familiar with the case said he resides in Arden Heights.
"Website A was a child pornography bulletin board and website dedicated to the advertisement and distribution of child pornography and the discussion of matters pertinent to the sexual abuse of children, including the safety and security of individuals who seek to sexually exploit children online," the federal complaint against Escobosa reads.
On Feb. 20, the FBI seized the site's server from a web-hosting facility in Lenoir, N.C., but kept it running until March 4, as it monitored who logged on, court documents allege.
That web site has appeared in at least two other child pornography cases in Brooklyn federal court. In one of those cases seeking a limit on who can view material released to defense attorneys, prosecutors contended, "The investigation continues into users of 'Website A,' which operated for the purpose of advertising and distributing child pornography. Thousands of users of 'Website A,' in the United States and abroad, remain under active investigation."
Reuters reported in July that the site had nearly 215,000 users.
Escobosa, who used the name "Fraud92787,"was listed as a "newbie member," and spent a total of four hours and 16 minutes on the site between Feb. 4 and March 3, court documents allege.
He accessed links to several images and videos of adult males having sex with prepubescent females, including, on March 3, a post that containted a link to 70 images of three girls, ages 5 to 8.
After tracking his internet address, federal agents came to Escobosa's door with a search warrant on June 30 and found about 115 thumbnail images of child pornography, court documents allege.
Escobosa admitted that he downloaded child pornography, and told federal authorities that while he was mostly interested in girls aged 15 to 17, he downloaded files depicting victims as young as 13 years old, it is alleged.
He admitted to using the Tor network, and when the "Playpen" website went down, he found other sites to view child pornography, court documents allege.
He also agreed to take, and passed, a polygraph test in which he was asked if he had ever had sexual contact with a minor, court documents allege.
The Tor network is often used by political dissidents and whistleblowers, but criminal organizations have also taken advantage of its anonymity.
Escobosa was arrested Friday and arraigned before Magistrate Judge Vera M. Scanlon on a federal child pornography complaint. He was released on $150,000 bond.
His lawyer, Patrick Parrotta, declined comment Monday.

If you are looking at huge bandwidth when you don't really need it, you are only wasting your money.

I will never recommend that for as long as we have virtual private server hosting. This is the type of hosting where you are given a virtual server of your own. Yes, they will tell you that you are getting hundreds and thousands of gigabytes of hard disk space. What you have to realize here is that you don't need that much space on the server at all. If your website is a basic w ebsite, you don't need that much of space. In fact, even if you are a big website you won't need that much of space. Such huge spaces are dedicated to websites that have a lot of content that goes on them. Think about university websites that have videos, pictures and PDF course outlines and other documents stored on them.
You can also talk about a website that sells many different types of products and has videos and images uploaded of these products. With basic ecommerce websites you won't need that much space. Even if you are thinking of putting up images and videos, you can work with various tools that convert your images and videos to small formats. This way you don't have to pay for so much space to your website hosting company. Lastly, if your company says you are getting unlimited storage, don't trust these words because it is not possible practically.
Reseller Hosting
It is quite unfortunate that many companies don't look into the opportunity o f using reseller hosting when they can actually offer it. Reseller hosting is when you buy space on a server and then rent this space out to other companies looking for web hosting as well. The amount of resources you rent on the server is more than your requirement. You will never use those resources and so the best option here is to offer them to other companies. Web hosting biz Servint hit by network-toppling DDoS attack
Web hosting provider Servint has been hit by a network outage, reportedly due to a DDoS attack.
In a tweet, the company said: "We are aware of an issue affecting a portion of our network. We are attempting to diagnose it and will update as we get information."
Email provider SMTP2GO was one of the company's customers to be hit by the outage, which in turn left its customers without services.
SMTP2GO said: "One of our internet providers (Servint) is continuing to have problems, apparently related to a DDoS attack. We are continuing to monitor the situation and respond as best as possible."
This is the second time in as many days that Servint's network has been down.
Customers took to Twitter to complain.

Never miss these 5 steps while transferring hosting providers
Moving a website from one host to another host can be little tricky. Most newbie webmasters make too many mistakes during the entire migration process and end up with broken sites which take hours of fixing and data loss. Given below is step by step instructions you should follow before moving your web hosting to another hosting provider.
Step 1: Do not sign up with a new host just yet
This is one of the common mistakes newbie webmasters make. They decide to switch their hosting provider and without taking care of necessary tech issues, they purchase a plan with the new host and rely on them to do the migration.
This is very risky. A single mistake on the part of your new web host and you may lose your website, files and everything else.
Do not rely entirely on your new web hosting provider to do the migration. It is your website and you should do the migration yourself, relying on a third party is not recommended here.
The first step is not to contact the new web host and take necessary steps to perform the migration yourself.
Step 2: Backup your website
Your existing web host has provided you a cPanel login for your website, you can use this cPanel login to download all the files, databases, settings and everything else.
If you do not have the cPanel login for your existing web host, please contact your web host provider and request them to provide you your cPanel details. Most web hosting providers have Live chat facilities and a support portal which can be used to avail instant support.

The download may take some time to finish, depending on how many files are being downloaded, their file size, uptime of your hosting provider and your internet connection speed. The same step is applicable for downloading all the email forwarders which you have added to your domain. Download each email forwarder file in 'Gzipped' format.
You should save the following three things in a folder of your computer
Once you have saved everything in that folder, ZIP it to a single file named "Backup.zip". You will need this later.
Step 3: Signup with a new hosting provider
Now that you have backed up everything, it is time to sign up with your new web host. Choose a new hosting provider depends entirely on your requirements. Some of the factors to consider are as follows:

Once your new web host has uploaded everything to your new hosting account, you should receive an email from them that all uploads have been completed.
Step 5: Point the domain to the name servers of your new web host
You do this by logging into your domain control panel and point the domain to the name servers of your new web host. The name servers of your new hosting provider are provided to you in the welcome email, when you signed up for your new web hosting account.
To change the name servers, login to your domain control panel, find the domain, click on "Edit name servers" and update the new name servers by choosing "I host my domains with another provider".

At this point, your website is hosted on two different servers. The moment you update the nameservers, your website will be fetched from your new hosting provider and not your old hosting provider.
A name server update takes around 24-48 hours to complete, so you should wait for some time before the changes propagate across the internet.
After the changes have propagated, visit "whoishostingthis" and do a search for your domain name. You should see that your new domain is being fetched from your new web host and not the old one.
Do a routine check on your website to check to see if everything is in perfect shape. If it is, you may now cancel your old hosting account. If something is not in place, contact the technical support department of your new web host and enquire about the problem, they will assist you further.
If you see that your new host is having issues, simply switch back to your old hosting by reverting back to the old name servers and then your website will be fetched from the old hosting provider and not the new one.
