Website Hosting Review – Which company has the best website hosting

Video Rating: / 5

http://goo.gl/OEbjp Website Hosting Review – The Best Website Hosting. Find out which company has the Best Website Hosting plan today. In this review I took a look at two very popular website hosting companies.

Both Companies are A rated but one of them is better suited to fulfill your website hosting needs. The link for the first website hosting company is above and the link for the second company in my review is here: http://goo.gl/r2Er8

Because of time restraints I don't go over every single detail on why one website hosting company is better than the other hosting company….I only wanted to give you my number one reason for choosing one over the other with regards to website hosting.

I personally use 10 different website hosting / domain name companies. For one they provide more than just website hosting they provide custom emails, personal emails, business emails. They also provide Custom website names for your business or for whatever you are promoting – also known as domain names.

For example one of my custom website names or domain name is www.SmallBizzTools.com my custom email address is mel@SmallBizzTools.com These companies also provide SSLs, online storage space and more.

If you are a serious online marketer you need to watch this video. It "might" just save you some time and frustration. Before I learned that not all website hosting accounts were created equal. I wasted money and time, (well I was able to get a refund) but I still wasted money by wasting my time.

At the end of the day, the Best Website Hosting company will depend on each individuals experience (I get that) but as I said before not all hosting companies are created equal. So in this video you will learn the major reason why I give one hosting company a better website hosting review than the other.

If you are currently using one of these website hosting companies, please leave your comments below as to why you think one company has the best website hosting or better solutions than the other, so that other online marketers can save time and money.

This is a list of more Hosting Companies for you to look at; not in any particular order!

It's been a year since host Steve Harvey famously announced the wrong person's name as the winner of Miss Universe 2016. Despite the blunder, Harvey is back Sunday night as the new Miss Universe is crowned.

Miss Universe 2017 will be broadcast live from the Mall of Asian Arena in Manila on Sunday (Jan. 29) starting at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) on Fox. Livestreaming is available on FoxNow, DirectTVNOW and Sling with a subscription to those services.

Here's all you need to know about this year's pageant:

First, what happened last year?

Last year, Harvey originally announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez had won with Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines finishing as first runner-up. He soon realized the mistake and the crown was taken from Miss Columbia and given to Miss Philippines. It will be interesting to see the reception Harvey receives this year with the pageant in the Philippines.

Who are the contestants?

A total of 86 contestants from around the world take part in Miss Universe. Each competes in swimwear, evening gown and interview categories and those with the highest scores move on to the top 12.

What will we see Sunday night?

On Sunday, contestants will introduce themselves before the top 12 are announced. The finalists will compete in swimwear and evening gown before a question-and-answer portion.

Who is representing the U.S.?

Miss USA is the feeder system for the Miss Universe pageant. Miss USA 2017 is Deshauna Barber. The Georgia native was Miss District of Columbia in the 2016 Miss USA pageant before capturing the national title.

A lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves, Barber is the first active member in the military to be crowned Miss USA.

See Miss USA, Miss Universe contestants in their national costumes

Who are the judges for Miss Universe 2017?

The judges are Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres, Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen, Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes, "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Cynthia Bailey, Paper Magazine editorial director Mickey Boardman, and TV and film producer Francine LeFrak.

Can viewers vote?

Fans can vote for their favorites up to 10 times per day through Saturday through a registered account at vote.missuniverse.com, the official Miss U app, on Twitter by using #MissUniverse and the country specific hashtag found on the voting website, or by downloading the mobile messaging app Vodi. Those votes will be used to determine the top 12 finalists. On Sunday, viewers can vote 10 times for each round of competition.

Who will perform?

Flo Rida and Boys II Men will perform during the live show.

Was does the winner receive?

Miss Universe receives an annual salary with living expenses paid for a year. She also receives a personal appearance wardrobe and styling services, a year of travel to represent the pageant and representation by WME/IMG, parent company of The Miss Universe Organization.

Best Managed WordPress Hosting - Built for Speed & Security

Choosing a web hosting is a basic but very important step for any website. You need to choose a fast web host which makes sure that your website loads quickly, doesn't experience any downtime, and is kept safe from potential security threats. The standard web hosting plans don't offer any special feature to ensure these goals.

This is Part 3 of a 3-part series on choosing the right WordPress hosting:

Fortunately, there is a special type of hosting which helps you achieve all of these and more. That is called managed WordPress hosting.

In today's post, I am going to introduce you to managed WordPress hosting, its pros and cons, and whether you should get it or not.

So, are you ready? Let's get started.

What is Managed WordPress Hosting

WordPress is clearly the leading platform for creating new websites and blogs. Due to the immense popularity of this platforms, some hosting providers decided to provide specialized hosting services for WordPress websites. This is called managed WordPress hosting.

In this special hosting service, all the technical aspects of your WordPress website is taken care of by the hosting provider. The service includes monitoring and optimizing the website loading speed, security, updates, backups, scalability, and various other performance-related issues.

When using a managed WordPress hosting, you won't have to worry about the performance of your website. You can focus on managing and growing your business, while the hosting provider will ensure the best performance of your website.

In most cases, these hosting providers hire experienced professionals to provide the best service. In contrast, regular hosting companies don't offer this level of customer support.

Pros and Cons of Managed WordPress Hosting

The concept of managed WordPress hosting definitely looks interesting. But there are some drawbacks too. Let's take a look at the pros and cons of this hosting type.

Pros of Managed WordPress Hosting

Very Fast: Managed hosting providers use special servers which are optimized to provide the best loading speed for your website. That means you can expect a superior performance even during high traffic periods.

Absolute Security: When using the managed service, you don't have to worry about your website security at all. The expert professionals will take all the necessary steps to protect your website from hackers, brute force attacks, DDoS attacks, and other types of misuses.

Regular Backups: Most managed WordPress hosting providers will keep daily backups of your website. That means you can easily revert to any available backup. As the whole process is automatic, you won't have to do anything manually.

Reliable Support: As I said earlier, managed hosting providers employ veteran professionals to provide top-class customer support. They will help you choose the best plugins, solve performance issues, and deal with any other technical problem you are facing.

Improved Uptime: Thanks to the superior, highly optimized server architecture, your website will have almost no downtime. Unlike the shared hosting providers, your website will not be impacted by the other websites hosted on the same server.

Cons of Managed Hosting

Higher Price: A significantly higher price is the main disadvantage of managed WordPress hosting. Even the lowest plans start from about $30 per month, which is lot more than the regular shared hosting plans.

Plugin Limitations: Most managed WordPress hosting service providers apply limitations on using some plugin, which includes some common names too. They disable some plugins for security reasons and on other cases, they already provide similar features (like caching) through the managed service.

Other Limitations: When using the service, you can only run WordPress. You are not allowed to use other CMS like Joomla, Drupal etc. This is because the servers are especially optimized to provide the best results for WordPress sites. Also, you will have less control over the technical aspects.

Do you Need Managed WordPress Hosting?

Now that you know what managed WordPress hosting is, and what its pros and cons are, it's time to figure out whether you need this service or not.

First of all, let's make it clear when you don't need managed hosting. If you are only a beginner, don't have any experience with blogging or online business, you don't need this special type of hosting. You should get started with a standard hosting like Bluehost, which is recommended by WordPress itself.

On other hand, if you have an established online business, own a high-traffic blog or website, a managed WordPress hosting could be very useful for you. When using a regular hosting plan, you have to take care of all the important things like website speed, security, updates, uptime, etc. It could become a huge burden over time.

Getting a managed hosting will free you from all these worries and allow you to concentrate on what you do best – grow your business. You should consider the higher price of managed WordPress hosting as an investment, which will be paid for by the superior user experience of your website.

Which Managed WordPress Hosting should You Get?

At this point, you might be wondering which companies offer managed WordPress hosting service and which one you should get. Well, I have got that covered too. Here are the best managed WordPress hosting service providers which offer real value for your money –

Final Words

If you want to get the performance out of your WordPress site, there is no alternative to using a managed WordPress hosting service. If you can afford the price, get started with any of the services mentioned above and check the improvements yourself.

So, what do you think about managed WordPress hosting? Do you think it would be a great choice for your website? Let me know in the comments below.

GoDaddy Unveils Website Building Tool GoCentral

As the longtime leader in streamlining the process of buying a domain name and providing hosting services for small and medium-size business (SMBs) owners, GoDaddy (NYSE: GDDY) has grown into a $6.25 billion market capitalization powerhouse.

Diversifying GoDaddy's revenue sources to include web design tools would be a natural extension of its core business, and the company is doing just that with the introduction of GoCentral. According to GoDaddy, the new GoCentral offering "combines a mobile-optimized website builder with an integrated set of marketing and e-commerce tools."

That integrated set of tools is a key feature, and could prove to be a differentiator for GoDaddy compared to web design solutions offered by competitors such as Israel-based Wix. Wix and a handful of others with similar drag-and-drop web site tools for the most part leave the responsibility for driving traffic and converting site visitors into customers to SMBs.

GoCentral's "smart learning system" aims to change that because "it helps customers get noticed, reach audiences wherever they are, and drive real results, including sales." GoDaddy's all-in-one package of website design and marketing tools also includes an online store that is ready take orders right out of the proverbial box.

In addition, GoCentral's online store is prepped for accepting major credit cards and mobile payment alternatives as well as providing SMBs with inventory management and shipping features. GoDaddy stock climbed 3% after the company introduced GoCentral Wednesday.

10 stocks we like better than GoDaddyWhen investing geniuses David and Tom Gardner have a stock tip, it can pay to listen. After all, the newsletter they have run for over a decade, Motley Fool Stock Advisor, has tripled the market.*

David and Tom just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy right now... and GoDaddy wasn't one of them! That's right -- they think these 10 stocks are even better buys.

Web Site Hosting Services - Products

It seems like every high-volume Web development firm is coming out with a DIY online website-building service. I've tested more than a dozen, and there are easily a score more waiting to be reviewed. Moscow-based uCoz's targets Web developers rather than average Joes who don't know an anchor tag from a type declaration. For us mere mortals, the company offers uKit, a drag-and-drop site builder for non-developers, and the product I'll focus on here. uKit is a good-looking modern builder of fully responsive sites, but it's one of the more restrictive when it comes to positioning page objects. Also, mobile site customization options and integrated statistics reporting are missing here.

Getting Started

On the uCoz.com home page, the Personal choice takes you to the developer-targeted uCoz builder I mentioned earlier, which caused me considerable confused when I started this review. You can avoid this by pointing your browser to ukit.com rather than uCoz.com. Pricing for uKit is quite reasonable: For $4 per month, the Premium plan gives you unlimited pages and sites, no uCoz ads, support, and a mobile-friendly site. The Premium Plus level, for $8 per month, adds live chat support and premium designs. The Pro level ($12 per month) lets you add custom HTML code to your site. Those prices are well below what you pay for most services, such as Squarespace($12–$40 per month) or WebStarts ($9.78–$39.98).

To start with uKit, you answer a short questionnaire, choosing a site type (online store, education, personal, entertainment, or portfolio), your computer knowledge level, and how much you want to spend, from free to "as much as it takes."

When you get to the uKit page to start building your site, you have a template choice that looks a lot like those you see with Wix and other DIY site builders. There are 37 categories to choose from, including some very specific options like Nail Design and Tattoo Artist. You can filter themes by primary color or by lightness and darkness of the design. The template previews also show you how the sample site looks on a smartphone screen. Note that the uCoz developer-level service offers fewer templates, and less modern-looking ones, at that.

The next step is choosing your site address on the service's ulcraft.com domain. At this point in the process, there isn't an option to register a custom domain name—you're stuck with a domain in the form of [sitename].ulcraft.com for now. You then go through a short series of questions asking for your business name, address, and social accounts. Finally, you find yourself in the clearly designed, modern, attractive site-building interface.

Editing Your Site

As with DudaOne, a left-side toolbar shows a grid of tiles with options for adding elements to your template page. Tabs atop this toolbar let you switch between Widgets and Blocks. In the latter, you get the standard Heading, Text, Image, Button, and more. Even more choices hide under sections called Structure (separators and spaces), Content (cards, price lists, tables, and more), Media, Contact, and Social. One convenience in uKit's toolbar is a Search space at the bottom, a handy way to get to the widget you want, and one I haven't seen in many competitors. Missing, however, is a Help button within the site-builder interface.

When you hover the mouse cursor over any page element, controls for it appear at its top. If it's a Block, you can tap a gear icon to change its structure, for example, from an object with padding (a margin of blank space) to one that fills the whole screen width.

The Soundcloud widget lets you enter a song URL and have it play on your site, but you can't set it to auto-play. The video widget can play Vimeo or YouTube movies on your page, but you can't upload your own private videos to uKit for playing. The SlideShare element lets you display PowerPoint files, PDFs, and Word documents on your site. A few other third-party widgets in the sidebar include LiveChat, MailChimp, and LiveAgent. Social icons offer good control of your accounts and services, but their colors are restricted by the template you choose. Another option is to drop in an AddThis widget, which uses the standard colors of the various social networks. You can also add feed panels from Facebook Pages, as well as Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest accounts.

This decent choice of widgets aside, uKits doesn't offer a gallery of third-party widgets the way Wix does. This is particularly limiting because uKit requires you to have a Pro level account to add any HTML snippets to your site.

The service conforms tightly to responsive design standards, so the placement of your page elements is restricted. You can't just place objects exactly where you want them anywhere on the page. By default, they also take up the full page width, but after some experimentation I found a way to add columns, by dropping items onto the side of the current page object. You can add up to six columns this way, which is probably all you'd want for a standard-width webpage. If you shrink the browser width, these side-by-side elements responsively revert to taking up the full page width.

Selecting text changes the sidebar to formatting and color choices dictated by the template. Again, positioning text the way you want can be troublesome. For example, I couldn't move a text box from the right to the left side of my welcome image. And repositioning an element on a page isn't easy. You can only move it up and down, and even that is difficult. When I moved a block from lower on the page above other elements, the block moved very slowly when I hit the top of the screen, and the operation took a few attempts. Undo works in the page builder with Ctrl-Z, but there are no right-click options. On the other hand, in-place WYSIWYG typing is supported for all text on your site.

You add site pages from the same left toolbar by clicking on the page icon. You get just two choices: Page and News (for blogs). You can add a page description and keywords for some SEO push. Pages appear in the top site nav, and if you exceed a reasonable number of pages, the overflow appears in a dropdown. You can duplicate a page and move it up and down in the nav. To create nested submenus, you have to go into a page's settings gear. Unlike other site builders, uKit doesn't let you simply drag the subpage onto a parent-page entry.

The Design toolbar mode lets you change the site background color or use an image instead. You can also change the design template at any time.

uKit is one of very few site builders that uses gamification, in the form of badges you earn by completing various tasks, to propel you towards building and improving your site. When I personalized my test site's favicon, for example, I received the "Little Things Matter" badge, for example. There's a running count in your dashboard of any badges you earn. It's not a huge deal, but it does encourage you to really take care of steps you might otherwise neglect.

Working With Images

After you drag an image element onto a page, a placeholder photo appears, which you can easily crop or attach a caption to. Adding your own photos is well handled in uKit. You can drag and drop them onto the Image Library dialog, where everything you upload is saved for later use. You can also choose from a decent stock photo collection (with usage fees), use your Facebook photos, or enter an image URL. Unlike Wix, uKit doesn't let you upload, sell, or rent videos you upload to the site builder host.

One thing missing in uKit is integrated photo-editing capability beyond the aforementioned cropping. Rotation at the very least would help a lot. The Gallery widget is a simple grid of images, which the site viewer can click through for a fuller view. You can change the grid view to a collage or a slideshow with a filmstrip across the bottom. It works fine, but other builders offer more in the way of formatting, with rounded corners and the like.

At one point during testing, I encountered one consistent error related to cropping images on the page, but fortunately none of my site-building work was lost after the page refreshed. Other than that, the builder operated smoothly and reliably. Some builders go through gyrations that can confuse you while you're adding and editing elements, but I didn't get any of that with uKit.

Making Money With Your uKit Site

There's no simple PayPal button widget in uCoz's widget panel, so if you just want a simple, single Donate, or Buy button, you'll need a Pro level account so you can enter PayPal's widget code. For full eCommerce, uKit uses the feature-packed Ecwid online shopping cart and storefront software. I added this to a page of my test site, and the store design nicely matched my site design. You have to connect your Ecwid account, or you can create one right from the site builder. Ecwid takes you through onboarding your store with a six-step wizard. You choose the store layout on uKit, but otherwise you control all commerce functionality in Ecwid, from which you can manage customers, shipping methods, inventory, and more.

Mobile Site Building

Since uKit uses responsive design, any site you build is automatically formatted to also look good on mobile screens. Unlike most other modern site builders, however, there's no mobile editing view, though you can preview in tablet and phone emulation. This means, that, unlike with Wix or WebStarts, uKit doesn't let you do anything to change your mobile site's appearance. Squarespace used to have this same limitation, but that service now allows some mobile customization. My site looked fine on my iPhone 6s, but the menu button was on the right side, which is harder for one-handed navigation.

Blogging

When you add a page of the News type, you get a blog page, complete with a pretty decent post form. This lets you add links, images, videos, and a Read More delimiter for those very long posts. You can enable or disable commenting (which requires a Disqus account), and schedule a post to launch at a later date and time. In all, it's an excellent blogging tool—neither too gunked up with options nor too limited.

Publishing Your Site

I like that, unlike WebStarts, uKit lets you finish building your site before publishing, with a clear yellow Publish button for when you're ready. After you publish your site, a message box offers domain registration so that you can, for example, send people to techlover.com, rather than techlover.ulcraft.com. As is pretty standard, the box also presents links for sharing your site to Facebook and Twitter, along with a link to view the live site. Even if you're not ready to publish the site, you can create a backup at any point during site building.

As with most easy online site builders, uKit suffers from lock-in: There's no way to move your pages to another Web hosting service. If this is important to you, consider Weebly, which lets you take all your site code and assets, or Squarespace, which lets you switch to a WordPress host of your choice.

Stats and SEO

Unfortunately, uKit includes no built-in site visitor statistics. You have to jump through the hoops required to set up and connect a Google Analytics account to get any reporting at all. Doing so yields a ton of tracking options, but note that these stats are always delayed by a day. Built-in stats, such as those delivered by Weebly, tend to be delivered in near-real time.

You go to the Promotion page of the dashboard to start getting control of traffic drivers to your site. Here, an Analyze website button tells you whether your creation is actually ready for promotion. For example, my site didn't have enough quality original text to even be considered for promotion. Once your site is ready, uKit offers Search Console and Business Listing tools to raise your visibility on the Web. This is important, since people building sites may not realize that their sites won't appear in the major search engines without some effort, including submitting them to the engines and proving ownership.

You Can Do It With uKit

I enjoyed building my test site in uKit, which is not something I would say about all the site builders I've tested. Its interface is modern and clear, and the service provides all the tools you need to create a mobile-friendly, commerce-capable, and consistent-looking site. Its blogging tool is excellent, and it lets you decide when to publish. I also like that it saves your images (but not videos) in an online repository for reuse. You don't get an extensive gallery of third-party widget options, however, or any ability to customize your mobile site, and no built-in site statistics are provided. uKit is a very good, and very affordable website builder, and it's worth considering. But for better rounded services, you can't go wrong with Editors' Choices DudaOne and Wix. For more tips and advice on getting started building your website, read our primer.

6 Simple Tips To Keep Your WordPress Website Secure In 2017

6 Simple Tips To Keep Your WordPress Website Secure In 2017

New Year, New President, new web host (if you just joined us), now is a great time to do a security audit of your WordPress website!

Unfortunately most people put this off until its to late costing them unwanted downtime and extra expenses trying to get it cleaned.

In the last two weeks I've personally been cursed out for this three separate occasions!  People really freak out when their website is suspended!

I can't really say I blame them, downtime sucks, especially when you didn't know you were doing anything wrong.

So that's the purpose of this blog – to teach all you smart webmasters to be responsible with your WordPress websites :).

1. Use Strong wp-admin Credentials

It really doesn't help that Softaculous defaults their one click installation to use admin as the username and pass as the password.  I wonder how many people neglect to change this?  Perhaps I'll tweet this blog post out at them.

Understand, there are thousands of bots out on the Internet that spend all day doing dictionary attacks on your wp-admin page.  Once they gain access, it's their site!  This can be solved by using a simple password generator.

I'll never forget, one of my websites was once hacked because one of the admins had his password set as "firstname123."  That's one of the first things the dictionary attack bots go after!

2. Update WordPress, Plugins, Themes Often

In the last two years, WordPress has done an excellent job with their auto updater.  I know, it can be a bit frustrating when an update breaks some of your code, but this is one of the top reasons why a website gets hacked.

Especially when you're running multiple websites, it can be easy to forget about updates, so leaving this option on is a great way to keep your site safe and secure.

It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when your website gets hacked if you're using an old version of WordPress.

3. Don't Install Poorly Coded Themes/Plugins

Before installing a new plugin and/or theme, do some research!  Reviews will let you know a lot about the developer / product, but look at the change-log to see how often it's updated.  Good scripts and themes are updated frequently.

Since WordPress is open source it makes it easy for amateur coders to develop a cool plugin that they can charge for.  Unfortunately many of these have been developed without proper quality assurance testing.

Personally, I've even fallen victim to this, buying themes on ThemeForest, then finding out later it was coded very poorly.  All hackers have to do is "train" their bots to look for certain themes, giving them wide open access to your website!

4. Install A Good WordPress Security Plugin

There are a lot of WordPress security plugins on the market, but you should use one that alerts you when things are out of date or when a failed login happened.

I'm a big fan of Wordfence but it can be taxing on your server load if you get a lot of daily unique visitors.  I'd say if you get under 1,000 daily visitors, give it a shot.

If you do more than that, you may have to have your developer take a look at your setup and determine what would be your most efficient security plugin.

5. Use Secure Connections (https)

If you've tried to login to your wp-admin without https it's likely you've encountered errors with session handling!  This is actually a good thing! You should ALWAYS use https on at least your wp-admin area, but really your entire site.

With SSL now being free and automatic (thanks to Let's Encrypt) you should ensure every domain and subdomain uses https.  I was telling a customer the other day, I feel like it will soon be a requirement across the Internet and I can see Google de-indexing non-ssl websites.

I actually have a video tutorial recorded about using SSL and WordPress here.

6. Backup Your Site Daily

Just like security plugins, there isn't a lack of WordPress backup plugins out there!  Regardless which one you decide to use, make sure you can take a backup nightly and store it somewhere offsite such as Amazon S3 or your local hard drive. (a lot of our customers like BackupBuddy)

While we also backup your site nightly here at NameHero, it's HIGHLY recommended you have your own copy.  That's the first thing our techs are going to ask if you run into malware; "is it possible to restore from an older backup."

This will save you a lot of headache being able to revert to a previous backup before any malicious code was installed. Also, don't make the mistake of backing up your website on the same server it's hosted, that won't do you any good!

If you follow these six-tips and frequently audit them, you will keep your website safe from hackers and online.  If not, you'll eventually learn why you should have!

While we do offer WordPress malware scanning / removal nightly here at NameHero, by the time we find it, your sites already in trouble!  Our scanner can help preventing the cancer from spreading, but it cannot prevent it!  Only you can do that!

Feel free to comment below with any questions!

How Web hosting Is Also A Major Determinant With Website design And SEO For Online Presence

For a website to appear online, there are some vitals aspects need to be considered. A beautifully conceptualized website, with a stunning design and flawless development are most vital components that are inevitable for bringing a website online. Publishing a website on the World Wide Web needs a good hosting service along with a domain name server. And to promote the website so as to make it traceable among the millions and billions of websites one needs some components of SEO. So if we analyze, it need a perfect combination of all aspects that is essential for making a website visible and accountable online. But pity is that most people seem to ignore some of these essential aspects and only focus on designing and development of a website before publishing them online. In this article let's have a look at how Web hosting also plays a major role in making a website economically viable and generating business.

Hosting is the base of everything:

How much effort you may put in designing and coding a website, unless it is online, there is no apparent benefit from it. A website needs a hosting space to be visible online. Hosting space is a virtual server rented from hosting service providers for plating and publishing a website. Unless the hosting servers perform well, it is obvious that the website may not be able to render properly as per the visitors' requests. Hosting servers offer certain bandwidth as per the web hosting plans. Unless the bandwidth is chosen as per requirement, the web site may get hanged frequently with more and more traffic. Also any technical issues with the hosting service will result in downtime for a website even if the website design is perfect.

Hosting services may be affected by virus and malware:

If a hosting server is affected by virus or malware or phishing or spywares. These infect the codes of hosted websites and renders improper information to the visitors. Such infection can also transmit virus or steal sen sitive information from visitors' computers. This is the reason why search engines usually remove the websites from their indexing upon detecting such virus or malware in a hosting server. So even if a website is promoted with SEO, it needs to be hosted on a reliable web hosting server in order to deliver good results with high uptime.

Improper Hosting can steer away visitors:

If a hosting server doesn't perform well for rendering a website, there is high chance that visitors may not visit that website for the second time. These factors are extremely slow loading time, non-rending proper files, extreme slow loading or pictures and videos, handing up frequently, etc. If a hosting service is not offering a better server configuration with higher bandwidth, the sites won't be rendered properly for the visitors. Such erratic behavior of hosting server results in distraction for a visitor and visitors won't prefer to visit such websites for their requirements, even if the web site design is nice and the codes are crisp.

Keeping the above three factors in mind, we can come to a conclusion that web hosting is equally important for a website as its design, development and promotion through SEO or any other method. Hence selection of web hosting service has to be dealt with adequate attention in order to make a website functional and well-appreciated by its target visitors.

Report: Alleged Mirai Creator Tried to Extort Web Hosts

After hundreds of hours of research, security journalist Brian Krebs has unmasked the identity of the alleged individual behind the Mirai botnet, the malware that knocked Krebs' website offline for days in September, and, perhaps more famously, was used to take down Dyn in October.

In more than 8,000 words, Krebs goes into detail about how he uncovered who he believes to be the author of the Mirai botnet, weaving together details, names and conversations in an effort to reveal the true identity of "Anna-Senpai".

Paras Jha, a 20-year-old Rutgers student and president of DDoS mitigation provider ProTraf Solutions, is believed to be Mirai's author, according to Krebs' research.

"After first reading Jha's LinkedIn resume, I was haunted by the nagging feeling that I'd seen this rather unique combination of computer language skills somewhere else online," Krebs writes. "Then it dawned on me: The mix of programming skills that Jha listed in his LinkedIn profile is remarkably similar to the skills listed on Hackforums by none other than Mirai's author — Anna-Senpai."

Krebs reached out to Jha, who denies the allegations, and said that he did not write Mirai and was not involved in attacking Rutgers, which was hit by 6 separate DDoS attacks last year.

Web Hosting Targets

In October, a Web Hosting Talk member asked for feedback about what to do in response a ransom notice that it had received. The sender? Anna-Senpai.

Many of the responses on the forum thread said that the ransom seemed like an empty threat.

It seems Anna-Senpai didn't act on this particular threat (the poster said nothing happened after the 96-hour period), but here's the ransom note that the hosting provider received, posted as-is full below:

——– Forwarded Message ——–

Subject: DDOS ATTACK ON YOU

Date: Mon, 17 Oct 2016 23:51:54 -0000

From: annasenpai@sigaint.org

To: xxxx

IMPORTANT!

Redirect this e-mail to your CEO/CFO/any kind of such person

Aloha! My name is Anna-senpai.

Recently i?ve decided to leave DDoS industry and released the source code of my /mirai botnet/ (google if you aren?t familiar with this) for free to everyone.

I had my rest and..Now I am returning to DDoS insdustry.

Last months i?ve worked on the code improvement and empowering my new botnet with a vulnerabilities in AvTech products.

So.

Your network will be DDoS-ed in 96 hours if you will not pay 2 Bitcoins at xxxx address.

If you will not pay in time, DDoS attack will start, your web-services will go down permanently. After that, price to stop will be increased to 5 BTC with further increment of 5 BTC for every day of attack.

NOTE, i?m not joking.

My attack are extremely powerful now – now average 700-800Gbps, sometimes over 1 Tbps per second. It will pass any remote protections, no current protection systems can help.

Once payment is done, send me an e-mail with the number of the wallet from you have paid, so I can identify you.

Make right decision.

The Web Hosting Talk member was not the only web host to have heard from Ann-Senpai. Francisco Dias, owner of Frantech ISP, was attacked by Anna-Senpai and Mirai in mid-September, except this time "Anna" was going by the name OG_Richard_Stallman.

"This guy using the Richard Stallman name added me on Skype and basically said 'I'm going to knock all of your [Internet addresses] offline until you pay me'," Dias told Krebs. "He told me the up front cost to stop the attack was 10 bitcoins [~USD $5,000 at the time], and if I didn't pay within four hours after the attack started the fee would double to 20 bitcoins."

"He was hitting us so hard with Mirai that he was dropping large parts of Hurricane Electric and causing problems at their Los Angeles point of presence," Dias said. "I basically threw everything behind [DDoS mitigation provider] Voxility, and eventually Stallman buggered off."

Minecraft

While the Mirai worm didn't become a household name until the October attack on Dyn, Krebs explains that earlier versions had many different names which corresponded to a variant that included new improvements over time.

Krebs says that in 2014, a group of hackers operating as "lelddos" publicly used the code to launch "large, sustained attacks." The most common targets of the group were web servers used to host Minecraft.

Why Minecraft? At any given time, Krebs says, there are over a million people playing it online, and those running the servers can make big bucks doing so.

"A large, successful Minecraft server with more than a thousand players logging on each day can easily earn the server's owners upwards of $50,000 per month, mainly from players renting space on the server to build their Minecraft worlds, and purchasing in-game items and special abilities," Krebs says. "Perhaps unsurprisingly, the top-earning Minecraft servers eventually attracted the attention of ne'er-do-wells and extortionists like the lelddos gang. Lelddos would launch a huge DDoS attack against a Minecraft server, knowing that the targeted Minecraft server owner was likely losing thousands of dollars for each day his gaming channel remained offline."

According to Krebs, in 2015, ProTraf Solutions (the company Jha works for as president) was trying to woo Minecraft server customers away from its competitor ProxyPipe. As part of that effort, ProTraf disabled ProxyPipe employees' Skype accounts (a main artery of support for its customers) and then the company's servers were hit by a massive DDoS attack. It seemed to work – within a few days, many of its clients had moved to Minecraft servers run by ProTraf.

Kreb says that last year, around the same time as the attack on his website, French hosting provider OVH suffered a massive DDoS attack. According to OVH founder and CTO Octave Klaba, the target of that massive attack was also a Minecraft server, Krebs says.

We want to know: Did you receive communication from Anna-Senpai? Are you doing anything differently to protect against DDoS attacks after the Mirai botnet?

Kevin O’Leary’s Cheap Web Hosting Just Crashed His Website

Well, this is awkward. Just one day after launching his bid for leadership of the Conservative Party, Kevin O'Leary's website has crashed. The problem? His cheap web hosting.

We spotted the issue around noon Thursday, after O'Leary shared a Facebook post pushing people to his website, olearyforcanada.ca.

After some cursory googling, the problem, while obscure, seems common to websites hosted on GoDaddy's managed WordPress services. The WhoIs information confirms the site is registered with GoDaddy. The issue involves the company's shoddy cacheing techniques, or the way GoDaddy compresses the site to make it load faster.

GoDaddy's managed WordPress hosting runs from $5.99 a month to $20.99 for their top Developer level package. According to online traffic tool, SimilarWeb, olearyforcanada.ca is estimated to have had 27, 200 visits last month. In his announcement video yesterday, he thanked the 40,000 Canadians who visited his site encouraging him to run.

GoDaddy is a popular web hosting service thanks to their Carls Jr. approach to advertising. Known for their aggressive sales tactics, the service is often derided as predatory and manipulative.

As candidate to be leader of the Conservative party, O'Leary's website is more important than ever, as he races to sell new party memberships ahead of the May 27 election.

A Profitable New Year: Starting a Web Hosting Reseller Business

By Chris Danks

In the digital era where the internet has revolutionized every industry, it's also created an abundance of job roles and career paths that simply did not exist in years gone by. A perfect example of this is becoming a web hosting reseller, which is a lot less complicated than you might think.

These days, everyone and their dog has a website - and to have your own website, you'll require web hosting services, unless your website is hosted via a blogging site like WordPress. So, with such a high demand for a service that's essential in the modern world, a website hosting reseller business has the potential to be a very lucrative venture.

With a bit of time and effort spent, reseller hosting could prove to be an ideal way of making sure you have a profitable start to the New Year. Here's some pointers to get you started.

Do Some Research

Before you can hope to become successful or even just establish yourself as a web hosting reseller, you'll need to start off by doing some research on website hosting, domain services and email management.

The right amount of research in these areas will not only help you to fully understand web hosting better as an industry, but your new-found knowledge will help you to be a more efficient and helpful business owner.

It's common for people in web-based sectors like web design and blogging to make the transition into reselling because of their previous knowledge and familiarity with the concept of website hosting.

Find a Reliable, Established Web Hosting Provider

Your first task is to find a decent web hosting company to purchase a reseller hosting package from. There are an abundance of website hosting providers to choose from, so it's wise to take your time and find one that will offer you a high-quality service for a fair price.

Finding the best reseller hosting for the job is a vital decision and one that shouldn't be rushed. By purchasing reseller hosting packages from a reliable and experienced company, it means you'll be providing your customers with a service that's of a much higher quality.

Just as in any other form of business, your company will be judged by the service you provide. By making sure that your reseller hosting package is top notch, it will give potential clients incentive to buy from you, as well as reflect that same level of excellence when they compare your company to your competitors.

Choose a Reseller Hosting Package to Suit Your Needs

While you're in the process of getting your hosting reseller business off the ground, it's important not to bleed out the funds you've set aside. So before you go gung-ho into purchasing a package that's too expensive and way more advanced than what you require, stop and have a think, then find something more suitable to your needs.

In regards to price, reseller hosting packages vary and will increase in cost, depending on how many domains you need, disk space, and the bandwidth you'll have available to you. Fortunately, the latter is less of an issue these days, because of the how far modern tech has come, so most quality web hosts will offer you unlimited bandwidth across the board.

If you're just getting started and have limited funds to spare, you'll want to start off with a lower price package and get something more advanced when business is booming. Before you buy anything, it's essential to make sure you'll be getting 100% of the sales you make, as some companies will take a percentage, which isn't great for a small business.

Design an Awesome Website to Sell Your Service

To be a success in the modern business world, you need a website - and with a such a huge amount of small businesses and web-based ventures out there, creating a strong website should be at the top of your priority list.

As a web-based company selling a web-based service, it's a no-brainer that you'll need a website to sell your product. eCommerce is a $1.915 trillion industry that began in the 90s and has since continued to make every-day purchasing nothing more than a click of a button. This popularity for online sales is exactly why you need your website to be of the highest quality.

Your site is much more than a place where customers will buy your service; it's a representation of your brand and a reflection of the quality people can expect from your company. If it's unengaging, unprofessional, or not very user-friendly, you'll be sending potential customers straight to your competitors.

Stand Out from the Crowd

Making your business unique and appealing has always been a crucial element of success. With the introduction of the internet and the sheer number of companies it's created, the need to stand out from the crowd has never been so important.

The way you market yourself as a brand will help to build up a loyal customer base. Whereas in years gone by, when companies would rely on a big marketing budget if they were to have any chance of success, these days, you can use social media to reach out to customers all over the world for free. This is perfect for small businesses who lack the buckets of cash of bigger organisations.

Although it's vital to separate yourself from the pack of other web hosting resellers, it's never a bad idea to see what they're up to. If they are succeeding where you aren't, find out why. A bit of small business espionage is an ideal way to make necessary improvements.

Online ventures such as reseller web hosting can prove to be a lucrative enterprise, especially if you've taken it on as a secondary income to coincide with another form of web-based career, such as web design or blogging. With the right amount of time taken to find the best reseller hosting package possible, the effort to get to know the industry and set up a website, and some starter capital to get the ball rolling, your web hosting reseller business will set you up for a profitable 2017.

How to Make an Ecommerce Website Secure

Imagine you run a local store in a shopping mall.

What would be the basic level of security in place?

You'd probably have secure doors with locks, CCTV cameras, alarm systems - that type of thing.

Most of these are visible security that most people can relate to and understand.

But what if you're an online retailer? You're not dealing with traditional shoplifters now. You're up against potentially sophisticated hackers who have the upper hand when it comes to their knowledge of the weaknesses of online stores.

Put simply, they're constantly looking for areas they can exploit.

But they're not your typical thief looking to steal a few items and sell them on to the local black market.

They're after something far more valuable - data. Whether that's credit card details or your customer's ID, your Ecommerce store and your business are at risk unless you take the necessary action to secure it.

So we've prepared these simple tips that can help you protect your Ecommerce site and your business...

    Choose Ecommerce Hosting

You've probably made quite an investment in building your website. Designing, building, optimizing and promoting a website costs money.

But are you risking it all by choosing a low cost hosting option?

The simple fact is that these days you are spoilt for choice when it comes to hosting. But don't be tempted by promises of super cheap hosting. Often it's a false economy.

In fact, it's a bit like building a racing car and fitting it with bicycle wheels.

If you're on a shared hosting service with hundreds of thousands of other users, then you could end up in a 'noisy neighborhood'. And nobody like noisy neighbors. They're rude, anti-social and they tend to bring the tone of the neighborhood down.

If you're on one of these 'eat as much as you can for a dollar' servers, can you be sure your host is investing in security? I doubt it. The chances are your server's IP address will be constantly blacklisted.

Probably the best option for serious Ecommerce retailers is a Virtual Private Server. This balances superb, scalable performance with reasonable costs and excellent security customization options.

Setting up your server for security is quite straightforward and if you can't manage it yourself, then usually a reputable host will offer a managed server service for you.

    Switch to HTTPS

Until recently, using secure HTTPS hosting with an SSL Certificate was generally reserved for the payment area of your site. That's obviously still the case, but gradually website owners are making the shift to securing their entire websites.

A major initial driver of this was the fact that Google stated in 2014 that they were doubling down on security and were including HTTPS as a ranking factor. Further contributing to the shift are announcements that browsers are going to start penalizing HTTP sites. Google recently said they have long term plans to mark all HTTP sites as non-secure and Mozilla said something similar back in 2015.

If you want to switch to HTTPS, you'll need to choose an SSL Certificate first. You can purchase one from your hosting company or a reputable SSL vendor.

Normally, they will help you to install the SSL Certificate, but then you need to run through a number of steps to switch your site to HTTPS, such as updating internal links in your site, setting up a 301 redirect and updating links in transactional emails, etc..

Overall, using an SSL Certificate is the basic price of admission when it comes to online security these days and it seems it will only become more important as browsers begin to take action against HTTP sites.

Choose A Secure Platform & Keep It Secure

There are loads of Ecommerce platforms to choose from these days. You need to be sure that your choice of Ecommerce platform not only performs how you want it to, but that it has a good reputation for security and updates itself regularly.

Tools like Magento, WooCommerce and PrestaShop are all really popular Ecommerce platforms, but popularity comes at a price. Hackers are always looking for vulnerabilities in these tools so patches and security updates are constantly being made available.

The key point here is to not just assume that once your site is live that it doesn't need to be maintained and updated or that it's the developer's, designer's or web hosting company's responsibility.

Ultimately you are responsible for security and even if you are not a technical person, you need to be sure that someone on your team, whether internal or via a supplier or partner, is covering your back.

Be sure to keep an eye on the software provider's site to check for updates and be sure to ask your security expert that these are being applied to your site.

Arguably the best option though is to use a comprehensive Ecommerce security application that will not only protect most common vulnerabilities, but also check the vendor's site to ensure that you are running the most up to date version.

    Secure Your Admin Area

One of the simplest and cheapest ways to improve your site's security is to protect your admin area.

If you use a common Ecommerce platform like Magento or WooCommerce (based on WordPress), then they will have a default admin area. Just by changing this you can prevent most lazy hacks who will just be looking for easy targets.

One really important point is to change the default administrator username. Hackers are looking for easy targets - if you use the default username like 'admin' then you're a sitting duck. Make your login credentials original and difficult to crack.

Also you can restrict access to the admin area by setting up a 'whitelist' of IP addresses which your server administrator controls so that access to the admin area is only permitted to known IP addresses.

Finally, set up your admin area to notify the administrator when a particular threshold has been passed, such as failed login attempts or login attempts from unknown IP addresses.

These are surprisingly simple and cheap, but effective steps.

    Backup Your Data Regularly

Imagine waking up to find that your site has been hacked!

What a bad feeling - you're in for a bad day.

But can you imagine how you'd feel if your site hadn't been backed up?! Things just went from bad to worse.

And don't forget that data loss can happen due to hardware failure or simple human error (it happens).

The simple fact is that you can never be too careful when it comes to backing up your data. And remember - it's YOUR responsibility.

Don't assume it's up to your hosting company or your web designer. Your data is your property and therefore your responsibility.

There are manual ways to backup your data, but the danger here is that it gets forgotten or you fall out of the habit of doing it regularly and the latest one available is from two or three months ago. That's no use to anyone.

The best solution is a fully set it and forget it automatic backup service. This means you can sleep safe in the knowledge that your data is backed up, safe and up to date.

    Never Hold Client Card Data

Some Ecommerce platforms will come with the ability to accept your client's card details and store them. This is something you should NEVER do.

Not only is it bad practice, but it could land you a heavy fine if your systems are compromised.

Ideally you should use the services of a payment gateway provider who provides this service for you and keeps the payments off your site. They have the highest levels of security for managing this type of sensitive data.

If you are just starting out and you are on a tight budget then services like PayPal will allow you to hit the deck running and aside from anything, some customers just prefer to use PayPal so it's good to give them the choice.

Of course, it's good practice to aim for Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) accreditation.

To become PCI-DSS compliant, your website needs to guarantee the integrity of your customer's financial data and you need to implement strong access control throughout your website.

    Use a GeoLocation Anti-Fraud Software

Hacking is not a local issue - it's global.

Attempts to use stolen card details could involve cards being stolen in one part of the world, which are then sent electronically to the other side of the planet and used to try to perpetrate online fraud.

Aside from the fact that you could lose revenue by sending out products for fake orders and start picking up chargebacks, the LAST thing you want is to be identified as a soft touch for fraudsters.

One way of addressing this issue is to use a GeoLocation Anti Fraud tool. These tools provide a real-time fraud score, which is available to the merchant to determine the level of risk of any particular transaction.

The algorithm looks at a number of criteria around the IP Address of the order and takes into account popular cloaking methods, such as using proxies and compares this with its database of billions of transactions to create a unified Fraud Risk Score.

If you're unsure, it gives you the opportunity to either refund the order or run some further manual checks.

Which brings me very nicely on to…

Create Manual Security Policies & Procedures

Never underestimate the effectiveness of solid manual procedures.

For example, let's take the example above where you receive an order that has a high Risk Score, but it looks OK to you.

What do you or your team do? Well you could just a) go on 'gut instinct' or b) you could do some further investigation.

I'd recommend option b). And this is where your Security Policies & Procedures should come into play.

Even if the thought of processes and procedures gets you yawning, just consider that this could be as simple as phoning the client using the number provided. If they aren't available, you could send an email asking for one or two pieces of identification.

You just need to find the right solution for your circumstances.

But also you can extend these to things like password policies and physical security, such as stolen or lost items like laptops that are used to access your system.

    Multi Layered Security

There is no magic bullet that will secure your site; therefore, ideally you should look at several different layers of security.

You could start with a firewall. You could use a physical firewall or a web application firewall depending on your budget. As a minimum, these offer a first line of defense against the most popular hacks, such as SQL injection or cross-site scripting.

You can also enhance your site by using a Content Delivery Network (CDN), which is a geographically dispersed set of servers which store copies of your website's pages.

One security advantage of a CDN is that they 'learn' to recognize malicious traffic to prevent it from harming your site.

Another advantage is that a CDN can prevent Distributed Denial of Service Attacks (DDoS).

Alternatively you can also prevent DDoS on a server using free, OpenSource Software.

    Wrap Up

Security is not free, but it's cheaper than getting hacked.

Ultimately, there is no one unified solution to make an Ecommerce site sound and secure.

The optimum solution is one which takes into account the right choice of software and hosting platform and keeping everything up to date and secure.

But also be ready for bad news. Make sure you keep our site automatically backed up.

Look at a layered approach by using different tools but also don't forget that good old written procedures play an important role in keeping your site safe and secure.

Which Type of Web Hosting Is Right for Your Business?

We all know we need websites to promote our businesses, but we may not understand the technical components involved. For example, for your website to live on the web, you need a domain name (i.e. yourwebsite.com) as well as web hosting (the storage space that hosts the files for your website and makes the accessible online).

Choosing a domain name is a simple enough concept to grasp, but how do you go about deciding what type of web hosting you need? Some of the questions you'll want to answer include:

  • What will allow the quickest access to my website for my customers?
  • What will be most efficient for me and my employees to use?
  • What will be most stable and avoid crashes?
  • What will be most secure?
  • How can I attain the most flexibility overall?
  • These are all important ideas to consider when choosing between various web hosting options. Today, we'll cover the main differences between three popular options for businesses: shared hosting, cloud hosting and dedicated server hosting.

    Shared Hosting

Quick definition: Your website will share a single server along with many other websites. Everything on this single server is shared, including RAM and CPU.

Ideal for... small businesses or new websites with relatively minimal web traffic. Shared hosting offers the best bang for your buck when you're just starting out creating your online presence. The main advantage is that your company does not need to maintain the server. This means no knowledge of server code and operating systems is required. Also, shared hosting is always the least expensive option and can save your business money when you're just starting out.

With most web hosts, you can download and install applications like WordPress, Drupal and Joomla to help you create your website and manage the content.

    Cloud Hosting

Quick definition: Your website is managed by a cluster of servers that forms the "cloud."

Ideal for... businesses experiencing rapid growth. You can scale your resources to accommodate your growing traffic, or during expected spikes such as sales or special promotions. As with shared hosting, the servers are maintained for you, so you and your employees do not need to have knowledge of server maintenance language like Linux. Also, with cloud hosting, server speeds are faster than with shared hosting because there is more bandwidth available to you.

Cloud hosting has the general advantage of being able to grow with your company, whereas with shared hosting, you may eventually outgrow your server. With the right web host, your website could function twice as quickly as with your average shared hosting plan. This is due to efficient server allocation and cloud management cloud servers that are low density, as well as top-of-the-line hardware and multiple caching levels.

    Dedicated Server Hosting

Quick definition: Yours is the only website operating from the server, and your website runs exclusively through that server.

Ideal for... large businesses that see a lot of web traffic. Dedicated servers mean just that — the server is dedicated to your website, so you're not sharing resources with other websites.

The main benefit of the dedicated server is that you have complete control over your server, including its operating system and hardware. This also means that you or one of your employees must have the ability to maintain the server, usually through Linux. Dedicated servers are significantly more expensive than shared servers or cloud servers, but if your business requires this level of web hosting, then the dedicated server is well worth the money. With a dedicated server, your options are virtually unlimited — you choose your own configuration and install all your own software. You can enjoy maximum safety and privacy with multiple layers of network security.

As you can see, there is a wide range of options to choose from when selecting your web hosting plan. To summarize:

  • Shared hosting is great for any small business and includes all features necessary to run your website effectively and efficiently.
  • Cloud hosting is appropriate for rapidly growing businesses since the cloud servers can easily allow your website to grow with your company.
  • Dedicated hosting is terrific for large businesses and businesses that see a lot of web traffic.
  • Regardless of the web host you choose, you'll have the ability to access your cPanel, design the look and feel of your site and create and post new content. You can also purchase upgrades like SSL certificates, SEO or design services and malware protection.

If you're having trouble weighing your options, choose a web host first and then talk with their sales team to figure out the best solution.
